Xiaomi might be looking to adopt Samsung's anti-snoop feature, but without the costly display technology.

      Software innovation may soon extend the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display feature to Xiaomi devices.

      Recent leaks indicate that Xiaomi is developing a similar capability that imitates the hardware and software of the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

      Tipster Yogesh Brar noted that a new anti-snoop technology is under development and is anticipated to be included in Xiaomi’s HyperOS 4, which will release later this year.

      Xiaomi could offer a more affordable option

      The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra features a Privacy Display integrated into the hardware, utilizing Flex Magic Pixel technology. According to Samsung, this technology manages light emission to make the display hard to read from an angle while remaining clear for the user viewing it straight on.

      In contrast, Xiaomi’s potentially different approach is likely based more on software, given that the feature is expected to be part of HyperOS 4 (based on Android 17). While this may mean it won't be as sophisticated as Samsung's pixel-level technique, it would facilitate wider accessibility across various devices.

      Samsung still leads in technology

      The Privacy Display on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra offers distinct advantages. A software-based privacy mode would have inherent limitations, likely failing to reduce viewing angles as effectively as Samsung’s specialized panel. Although it could be beneficial initially, it might adversely affect overall user experience.

      Samsung maintains an edge, as its Privacy Display technology can adjust viewing angles through dedicated screen features, applicable to the entire screen or specific sections. It should be noted that this information comes from an unverified leak and Xiaomi has not made any official statements yet. However, it aligns with recent reports indicating that Chinese smartphone manufacturers are exploring "spy screens."
