Nvidia's N1X laptop processor may be imminent.
An Nvidia ARM gaming chip in a Legion laptop? Things are definitely getting intriguing.
Lenovo has inadvertently confirmed its plans for laptops that will utilize Nvidia’s unannounced N1X chip. This confirmation emerged from Lenovo’s own ADFS authentication system, which included an “Nvidia N1x Portal” reference on its internal login page, as initially noticed by VideoCardz.
Previously leaked support pages also mentioned several unreleased Lenovo models labeled with N1 and N1X tags, such as the Legion 7 15N1X11, suggesting the creation of a Legion 7 gaming laptop centered around the N1X chip.
So, what is the Nvidia N1X?
According to leaked information, the N1X is Nvidia’s forthcoming ARM-based chip that integrates a 20-core CPU with a Blackwell GPU in a single unit. The CPU features a hybrid architecture, containing 10 performance cores and 10 efficiency cores, while the GPU comprises 6,144 CUDA cores, matching the core count of the desktop RTX 5070. This chip is manufactured using a 3nm process and supports up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory.
The N1X is likely the same chip that powers Nvidia’s DGX Spark compact AI computer, which operates at 120W. The laptop variant is expected to run at a lower power target, which may result in slightly reduced performance, yet it would still present a substantial improvement over any current Windows ARM laptop options.
Could this transform Windows gaming laptops?
If the chip performs as well as it appears on paper, a Windows ARM laptop could genuinely manage gaming, video editing, and AI tasks without the need for a dedicated graphics card for the first time.
However, there is a significant concern regarding software. Although Windows on ARM has made notable strides, compatibility with games and driver support remain ongoing issues. If Nvidia can rectify these problems, the Legion 7 N1X could become an exciting laptop option.
I have been eagerly anticipating a Windows on ARM laptop that can truly compete with Apple’s MacBook Pros, and it appears that the imminent Nvidia N1X-powered laptop might finally fulfill that expectation.
