AI is significantly enhancing the capabilities of "wizards" on 4Chan who receive requests to remove clothing from images of women.
A recent analysis by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and reporting from WIRED reveal how users on 4chan request, create, endorse, and disseminate nonconsensual AI-generated nudes of women.
4chan has turned into a platform for AI image exploitation, where anonymous users seek out editors to transform everyday photos of women into synthetic sexual images without their consent.
The ISD analyzed 7,616 posts in English from December 2025 to March 2026, discovering that 2,927 of these posts contained language related to nudification or image manipulation. According to WIRED, there exists a culture of requests and rewards, where those producing the fakes are viewed as skilled individuals.
The posts reveal a consistent pattern: a user provides a photo, an editor creates a manipulated image, and the community acknowledges this act with elevated status.
The Dynamics of Abuse and Status
ISD observed that requests typically follow a commanding format, with users supplying images and specific instructions for modifying the target. This language objectifies women, treating them as material to be altered, demeaned, and shared.
The term “wizard” is pivotal within this community, with ISD noting 777 instances of “wiz” in their dataset.
In this exchange, one user receives a modified image while the editor gains a boost in public standing. The woman depicted has no voice in the process, and the abuse can quickly move underground.
The Spread of Harm through a Specific Forum
ISD found mentions of Kik, Discord, Teleguard, and Telegram throughout the dataset, indicating that 4chan often serves as an initial platform before discussions transition to more private channels.
The emergence of nudification tools has significantly reduced the necessary skills for individuals to request or generate fake nudes, as the forum provides a convenient social framework for engagement.
Targets of this abuse can be disturbingly recognizable. Many requests involve women known to the requester, such as friends, co-workers, supervisors, and family.
AI has not initiated this abuse; it merely streamlined the process for perpetrators.
Who Will Intervene in This Cycle?
ISD has highlighted a significant accountability gap. Although 4chan is smaller than platforms currently facing intense scrutiny under EU regulations, the research suggests that size alone doesn’t account for potential risks. Even smaller platforms can facilitate substantial harm.
Regulators are beginning to take notice of these issues. ISD reports that the UK's Ofcom has initiated an enforcement case related to 4chan's online safety responsibilities, while EU regulatory actions remain uncertain due to complexities in legal representation and jurisdiction.
The crucial question is whether platforms and regulators will recognize nonconsensual AI-generated nudes as a form of coordinated sexual abuse. Addressing this requires tracking the process from request to creation and private sharing, as the “wizards” are already aware of where to seek an audience.

A recent ISD analysis and reporting from WIRED reveal how users on 4chan are creating a repeatable system for nonconsensual AI-generated nudes that relies on requests, status updates, and the use of private platforms.
