AI is energizing "wizards" on 4Chan who fulfill requests to alter images of women by nudifying them.
An analysis by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and reporting by WIRED reveal that 4chan users request, create, appreciate, and disseminate nonconsensual AI-generated nude images of women.
4chan has emerged as a hub for the misuse of AI imagery, where anonymous users request the transformation of standard photos of women into synthetic sexual depictions without their consent.
The ISD scrutinized 7,616 posts in English between December 2025 and March 2026, identifying 2,927 posts that contained language related to nudification or image manipulation. WIRED highlights the personal elements of this issue, detailing a culture of requests and rewards where individuals who produce these fakes are viewed as talented creators.
These posts reveal a consistent process: one user provides a photo, an editor generates the fake image, and the community acknowledges the editor's efforts with increased status.
How abuse translates to status
ISD found that many requests have a directive style, often featuring users supplying images and detailed instructions on how to alter the subjects. The terminology dehumanizes women, turning them into editable content for degradation and public sharing.
The term “wizard” plays a crucial role in this community. The ISD's analysis recorded 777 instances of the term "wiz" in its dataset.
This exchange benefits one user with a manipulated image while enhancing the public standing of the editor. The woman depicted has no input, and the exploitative content quickly becomes obscured.
Why this platform perpetuates harm
The ISD's findings indicated references to Kik, Discord, Teleguard, and Telegram throughout the dataset, implying that 4chan frequently serves as a starting point before moving discussions to more private channels.
The availability of nudification tools has lowered the necessary skill level, enabling users to request or create fake nudes without advanced editing abilities, supported by a ready-made social framework on the forum.
The targets of this abuse are often disturbingly recognizable. Requests frequently involve women who are personally known to the requester, such as friends, colleagues, supervisors, and family members.
AI did not initiate this abuse; it merely simplified the process.
Who will halt the cycle
ISD highlights a significant gap in accountability. Although 4chan is smaller than platforms under intense EU scrutiny, the research suggests that size alone does not equate to reduced risk. A niche platform can still facilitate serious harm.
Regulatory bodies are beginning to address parts of this issue. ISD notes that the UK's Ofcom has initiated an enforcement case regarding 4chan's online safety obligations, while EU regulatory actions remain uncertain due to legal representation and jurisdictional challenges.
The forthcoming challenge will be whether platforms and regulators recognize nonconsensual AI nudes as forms of coordinated sexual abuse. This requires tracing the process from request to creation and private sharing, as the “wizards” are already adept at finding their audience.

A recent analysis by ISD and a report from WIRED reveal how users on 4chan are establishing a systematic approach to creating nonconsensual AI-generated nude images, which relies on requests, status updates, and the transfer of content between private platforms.
