Android 17 is at long last receiving Apple’s Handoff feature, and it’s overdue.

With just one tap, your tablet resumes from where your phone stopped.

Recently, I discussed how Apple's Continuity features keep me within the Apple ecosystem, as Android and Windows lack a comparable solution for seamless integration across devices.

Now, it appears that Android is beginning to catch up with Apple in this area. The forthcoming Android 17 will introduce a feature called Continue On, which aims to make the transition between Android devices feel effortless. This feature allows you to start an activity on one device and seamlessly continue it on another Android device.

At launch, the feature will primarily focus on transitioning from mobile to tablet. When you access your tablet, you will see a suggestion in the taskbar for the last opened app on your phone. A simple tap will bring you back to where you left off, similar to Apple’s Handoff feature.

      How does it function?

Google refers to the device you begin on as the sender and the one you switch to as the receiver. The transition occurs in the background, so there is nothing complicated for you to do. The app simply resumes from where you stopped.

There are various outcomes depending on how the app developer has designed the app. If the app is installed on your tablet, it will direct you straight to the activity you were engaged in. For instance, if you open a Google Docs tab on your phone, the same document will be accessible on your tablet.

What if the app isn’t on your tablet?

If the app isn't installed on the tablet, developers can create a web fallback. This means that if the app isn't on the receiving device, it will instead open the corresponding web experience in your browser. For example, Gmail can transition from the Android app on your phone to the full Gmail web interface on your tablet, allowing you to access the same email thread.

Developers also have the option to bypass the app entirely and direct users to the web version if that offers a better experience for a larger screen. Continue On will be included in Android 17, and developers can begin to incorporate support for it now.

It is quite possible that Google will extend this feature to its upcoming Googlebook laptops, finally offering users a competitive ecosystem to that of Apple. While it is still in the early stages, it is a promising advancement.

Discord calls are now equipped with end-to-end encryption, but your direct messages are excluded.

Discord has spent three years developing one of the most comprehensive cross-platform encryption systems currently available, yet it does not cover the key part of the app used for day-to-day communication.

Discord has finalized a project initiated back in 2023, and while the achievement is impressive, there is a significant limitation. Starting in early March 2026, all standard voice and video calls on Discord will feature end-to-end encryption (E2EE), which is enabled by default without requiring any adjustments from users. The encryption utilizes DAVE, which is Discord’s proprietary open-source protocol.

At Google I/O 2026, YouTube users received a complimentary AI-powered creative studio, but the top AI search functionalities remain locked behind a paywall.

During I/O 2026, Google fundamentally revamped two of YouTube’s essential features, producing results that are quite useful. First, YouTube search will introduce a new feature named Ask YouTube, reminiscent of AI Mode but tailored for the platform’s extensive video library. Additionally, there’s Gemini Omni, Google’s tool that allows “create anything from anything,” which will be accessible in the YouTube Shorts Remix and Create app, marking a significant announcement for content creators. However, while Omni is currently free, Ask YouTube is behind a paywall.

The main highlight is a range of new features dedicated to the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the company making adjustments to attract a much broader audience for the tournament that will dominate the sports agenda. Apple Sports is going global.
