Samsung PenUp introduces new stylus features for your Galaxy phone, provided it is compatible with an S Pen.

Galaxy S Pen users now have access to more brushes for their creative endeavors.

Samsung's PenUp app is receiving a valuable update for Galaxy users, particularly those who utilize the S Pen for casual digital art. For those unfamiliar, PenUp is Samsung's application for sketching and coloring templates. While it supports touch inputs, the recent update is especially beneficial for Galaxy phones and tablets that support the S Pen.

The latest update of PenUp, version 3.9.22.23, introduces 53 new brushes through the "Download more brushes" feature, along with a new tool called Dual brush, which enables two strokes to collaborate for layered effects.

What new drawing tools have been added to PenUp?

The brush controls have also been improved. Users can now double-tap on a brush from the selection screen to access individual settings. The revamped menu separates unrelated controls and offers a live preview, making it easier to adjust a brush before applying it on the canvas.

Samsung has simplified the process of continuing a drawing on a different device. The new Export Draft and Import Draft options save artwork as a '.penup' file, retaining layers and key settings. Additionally, there is a sync feature for Samsung accounts, allowing users to switch between devices seamlessly.

What else is new for PenUp users?

Editing functionalities have been enhanced with the Auto Select feature in the Lasso selection tool, which can automatically identify objects in a drawing. PenUp now also supports automatic landscape rotation, provided the Auto Rotate setting is enabled on the Galaxy device.

Although this update primarily targets S Pen users, PenUp is not restricted to stylus-compatible devices. The app includes a Finger Drawing mode, allowing users to draw directly via touch input. This mode is suitable for coloring templates, quick tracing, rough sketches, or casual doodles, although it lacks the precision of using an S Pen.

Apple should consider giving the Neo treatment to its forthcoming iPhone 18e, and I would be interested.

Yes, I said it—I desire the iPhone Neo.

For years, Apple's approach to affordable iPhones has followed a predictable pattern: take an older flagship design, remove some high-end features, slightly reduce the price, and market it as the entry-level option within the ecosystem. This strategy proves effective financially; however, it often lacks emotional appeal.

This is precisely why the upcoming iPhone 18e presents a significant opportunity for Apple. Rather than treating it as yet another downgraded flagship, Apple should fully embrace a "Neo" identity centered around color, personality, experimentation, and smart hardware reuse. Apple has executed this concept exceptionally well with the MacBook Neo and should apply the same strategy to create an affordable iPhone.

Your Android phone can now share files with any iPhone via a Quick Share QR code.

Quick Share has received an upgrade that makes cross-platform file sharing nearly seamless.

Transferring files between Android and iPhone has historically been cumbersome, but Google is quietly resolving this issue. The company has introduced a new Quick Share feature that allows Android devices to be compatible with Apple’s AirDrop, enabling users to transfer files effortlessly between iPhones and Android devices.

However, not all Android devices possess the necessary hardware to support Quick Share-AirDrop compatibility, meaning some Android smartphones cannot access this feature. To address this limitation, Google has announced a new QR code-based file-sharing system that facilitates file transfers from any Android device to iPhones.

Your next free Google account may only provide 5GB of storage.

Google's free storage has long been a significant advantage over Apple's 5GB iCloud limit, but that is shifting.

Google has discreetly changed a long-standing promise in consumer technology: the provision of 15GB of free cloud storage. For many years, creating a Google account guaranteed 15GB of free storage, shared across Gmail, Drive, and Photos. However, that has now changed.

New accounts will default to 5GB (matching iCloud), with the full 15GB accessible only if users input their phone numbers during the setup process. The message that users see reads: "Your account includes 5GB of storage. Now get even more storage space with your phone number."
