Google's AirDrop-like feature is expanding to more Android devices, but your older Galaxy model likely didn't qualify.
Android phones are gradually gaining AirDrop functionality, but not all at once.
Google's Pixel 10 series features Quick Share, compatible with iPhone AirDrop.
Android's long-anticipated AirDrop feature is finally being introduced beyond Google's own devices and the latest Samsung flagships. However, the initial rollout is limited to a select group of models. Google has released a list of devices that currently support AirDrop-style sharing, along with those set to receive the feature in the future. This means the divide between the Apple ecosystem and Android is beginning to narrow.
Which Android devices will support AirDrop
As per Google's confirmed list, AirDrop support is presently available on the following devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S26 series
- Google Pixel 10 series
- Google Pixel 9 series
- Google Pixel 8a
- Oppo Find X9 series
- Oppo Find N6
- Vivo X300 Ultra
Samsung was among the first Android phone manufacturers to implement AirDrop compatibility, following Google's new Pixel lineup. If you have a Galaxy S26 model, you are eligible. However, users of the Galaxy S25 series or foldable models will need to wait.
Devices that will receive support later
Google has also identified a broader range of Android flagship devices due to receive support soon, particularly from Samsung:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 series
- Samsung Galaxy S24 series
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
- Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold
- Oppo Find X8 series
- OnePlus 15
- Honor Magic V6
- Honor Magic 8 Pro
This list reveals that Google and its Android partners are initially focusing on high-end models. Including the Galaxy S24 and S25 lineups makes sense, as does supporting Samsung's recent foldables given their flagship price points. However, at this stage, only three other Chinese brands are slated for support.
There is no mention of older Galaxy S-series phones, FE models, midrange A-series devices (despite Samsung's future plans for them), or previous Z Fold and Z Flip models. This does not imply that they will never receive support, but they are currently excluded from Google's rollout list.
