Excited for the Steam Machine? This AMD cube is now available for a reasonable price of $4,000.
Thunderobot's AMD cube resembles a Steam Machine but comes with a workstation price tag.
Valve's eagerly awaited Steam Machine is still some time away from its official launch. However, Thunderobot has introduced an AMD-powered cube that embodies the same living-room PC vibe. Yet, the pricing is far from that of a typical console. Thunderobot has recently revealed its AI Mini Workstation in China, having first showcased it at CES 2026. This compact cube PC is equipped with one of the most potent AMD mobile processors, provided you have several thousand dollars available.
Steam Machine targets workstation-level pricing
The standout feature is its design. Thunderobot's workstation adopts a cube shape measuring 199 x 199 x 199mm, providing a compact appearance similar to what consumers expect from Valve's forthcoming Steam Machine. However, what really sets it apart is the internal hardware. This isn't your average everyday desktop. The initial setup boasts an impressive 128GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The system is driven by the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which features AMD’s Radeon 8060S integrated GPU.
Users can also allocate up to 96GB of VRAM from system memory. This powerful configuration enables the system to handle demanding AI tasks, not just gaming.
Thunderobot has also prioritized cooling solutions. The AI Mini Workstation employs a custom liquid-cooling system with a "full-coverage cold plate" intended to maintain optimal temperatures for the Ryzen APU and other crucial components under heavy usage. The device is also equipped with a 14-phase power supply, which allows it to deliver up to 176W of power. Additionally, it features a robust array of ports, including two USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, multiple USB-A ports, USB-C, 10G Ethernet, 2.5G Ethernet, dual 3.5mm audio ports, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4.
What are the downsides?
The main drawbacks of this cube-shaped workstation are its cost and availability. Priced at nearly $4,000, it’s not a substitute for a Steam Machine or console. Furthermore, Thunderobot does not have a significant global presence, making a release outside of China unlikely at this time.
