Digg attempted to surpass Reddit but didn’t succeed. Here’s its current approach.

The platform that was unable to surpass Reddit has now discovered an entirely different approach.

Digg stands out as one of the more captivating tech narratives in recent history. Initially launched as a competitor to Reddit in January 2026, it was shut down just two months later due to an overwhelming influx of bots. It has now resurfaced in a completely transformed format.

Founder Kevin Rose revealed the revamped Digg last Friday, and the new iteration bears no resemblance to its former self. It no longer aims to compete with Reddit; instead, it functions as an AI news aggregator.

So, what is the purpose of the new Digg?

The platform monitors and ranks AI news by analyzing real-time engagement on X. Rather than relying on votes or comments within Digg itself, the site gathers content from X and employs sentiment analysis, signal detection, and clustering to determine which stories are truly significant.

When @sama interacts with a story related to AI (through posting, reposting, quoting, or commenting), it typically triggers a chain reaction—prompting extensive discussion and spreading that topic across X. This interesting feature is part of the new @digg, which is launching soon.

The homepage features trending stories, with a ranked list of the day's top narratives accompanied by engagement metrics below. Additionally, the site ranks the top 1,000 individuals in AI, as well as the leading companies and politicians focused on AI-related matters.

By clicking on a story, users can access a dedicated page that offers far more than just the headline. At the top is a brief AI-generated summary that provides a quick understanding of the situation without the need to refer to the original source.

Following that is the original post that initiated the discussion, along with a full feed of quotes, replies, and reposts from those who engaged with it. Each post displays the user's ranking number next to their handle, giving insight into their influence within the AI community.

The page also includes an engagement breakdown with metrics such as views, comments, reposts, and bookmarks tracked over a 24-hour period, as well as a sentiment chart indicating whether the overall reaction on X was positive or negative.

This format is appealing, making it simple to grasp an X post and the surrounding conversation. For anyone looking to stay updated on a trending AI discussion without endlessly scrolling through X, this layout effectively consolidates everything in one location.

But will people actually utilize it?

That's the key question. For those who want to keep up with AI news, Digg could prove to be genuinely helpful. However, the site currently lacks a community, and it's unclear why someone would choose it over their preferred news app or RSS feed.

Digg states that AI is merely a test case, with intentions to broaden its topics if this version gains popularity. I can envision Digg becoming a valuable resource for aggregating and understanding trending news topics from X. Whether it will thrive or fade away remains to be seen.

Anthropic's deal with SpaceX highlights the stark computational challenges Musk faces in his quest to compete with AI rivals. SpaceX is leasing the complete capacity of its Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, to Anthropic, providing the creator of Claude with an unexpected boost in infrastructure while xAI's Grok struggles for ground in the AI competition. The agreement, announced in early May 2026 and reported by the Wall Street Journal, grants Anthropic access to over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and more than 300 megawatts of processing power, which represents the type of computing advantage that Musk's chatbot venture would ideally want to have close by.
