This might be the ultimate design of the iPhone 18 Pro, and it's, not surprisingly, quite dull.

      We're already in May, signaling that the next major iPhone season is approaching. In just a few months, the iPhone 18 Pro will finally be revealed, and I have to admit, I still feel a sense of excitement every year as a new iPhone launch draws near. There's something enjoyable about the anticipation, the leaks, the keynote build-up, and all the speculation that surrounds it.

      Recently, a new video from Jon Prosser at Front Page Tech gave us a possible early glimpse at the upcoming Pro model, and to be honest, it left me a bit underwhelmed. If these renders are even somewhat accurate, the device appears to be too familiar. While it doesn’t look bad or unattractive, it comes across as safe in a way that makes it difficult to feel excited. At first glance, it hardly seems like a new-generation iPhone at all.

      The cycle of iPhone innovation continues

      According to Jon Prosser, the most significant visual change in the iPhone 18 Pro may be a slightly smaller Dynamic Island compared to last year's Pro model. This seems to be where the “new design” discussion begins and ends. Previous speculation about under-display Face ID also appears to be off the table this year, meaning the front of the phone might look almost the same as the current model.

      Honestly, that part feels a bit disappointing. Every year, there's hope that Apple will surprise us with something visually innovative, something that creates excitement the moment you hold the new iPhone. However, if these leaks are to be believed, the iPhone 18 Pro looks more like a cautious refinement. A smaller Dynamic Island is nice, but it hardly seems like the kind of change that would stand out beyond tech enthusiasts.

      In terms of colors, Prosser suggests Apple might introduce shades like light blue, dark cherry, dark gray, and silver this year. On the rear, the phone is still expected to feature 48MP camera sensors across the board, but the real highlight might not be the megapixel count. According to him, Apple could finally introduce a variable-aperture main camera, allowing the lens to adjust the amount of light based on the scene. This could lead to sharper images, improved low-light performance, and more natural-looking depth in photos.

      The engine has gotten louder, but the road remains unchanged

      However, there might be a slight compromise. The Camera Control button is said to support only pressure-sensitive inputs this time, possibly as a way for Apple to reduce manufacturing costs. So, while the company may be advancing camera hardware, it could also be simplifying certain aspects behind the scenes.

      Internally, the iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to feature Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which Prosser claims could be around 50% faster and 30% more power-efficient than the previous generation. Battery improvements, however, appear to be rather modest. The Pro Max model might increase from a 5,100mAh battery to a slightly larger 5,200mAh unit, which doesn’t exactly shout “significant upgrade.” One genuinely intriguing addition could be Apple’s new C2 modem, with the Pro models reportedly supporting satellite-based 5G connectivity, which sounds forward-looking.

      Perhaps the most revealing aspect of Prosser’s leak is that he seemed more enthusiastic about Apple’s rumored foldable device, supposedly named the iPhone Ultra. He suggests that this product is expected to capture more attention this year. That really says a lot. The iPhone 18 Pro sounds polished, powerful, and predictably premium, yet it also feels like another round on a very familiar circuit.
