Spotify's AI DJ now communicates in French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Spotify has recently expanded its premium AI DJ feature, enhancing the user experience for individuals in Europe and Brazil. This update introduces the DJ function to new regions and supports four additional languages: French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese.
The AI DJ serves as an interactive DJ powered by artificial intelligence, acting as a radio host that curates playlists based on users' listening history and preferences, along with Spotify's own selections, while providing commentary on the tracks.
Over time, the company has improved the feature to enable users to engage in conversation with the DJ and request music by either typing or speaking to ask for particular songs or moods.
Previously, the DJ feature was available only in Spanish and English. With this latest expansion, Spotify is introducing the feature to Premium users in Austria, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, and various other countries.
Every newly introduced DJ voice and persona is crafted to reflect local cultures and maximize user interaction. For example, Maïa represents the French audience, Ben serves the German listeners, Alex caters to Italian fans, and Dani addresses those who speak Brazilian Portuguese.
The feature was designed to provide a native experience, which led Spotify to conduct over 100 auditions to identify voices that resonate authentically with each market. Local teams collaborated to define each DJ’s personality, ensuring that the tone, warmth, and cultural nuances felt natural for native speakers.
Users can access the DJ feature by visiting their Home page or by searching for "DJ" and tapping to initiate a personalized session. They can allow the DJ to operate independently or tap the blue circle in the bottom-right corner to request a specific song or vibe through text or voice commands.
To change languages, users need to select the three-dot menu within the DJ page and choose their desired language.
The AI DJ was first launched in 2023 and was initially available only in the US and Canada. It later extended to the UK and Ireland, and subsequently rolled out in Australia, New Zealand, and selected European, Asian, and African markets. With these new language additions, the feature is now available in over 75 countries globally.
This expansion is one among many new features Spotify has recently unveiled. For instance, the company has introduced a “Verified by Spotify” artist badge that helps listeners distinguish between human artists and AI-generated music.
Additionally, Spotify has announced several recent partnerships, including one with Bookshop.org to sell physical books in the US and UK, and another with Peloton to provide Premium subscribers access to over 1,400 ad-free fitness classes and guided workouts from the company’s catalog.
