Why Nexus Luxembourg has established itself as a staple in Europe's AI schedule.
On 10–11 June, the Grand Duchy will host the third edition of its premier tech summit, just weeks before the most significant provisions of the EU AI Act come into effect. Here's a look at the evolution of this event and its particular significance this year.
Luxembourg, with a population smaller than that of Manchester yet a significant player in European finance, has worked steadily over the past few years to establish itself as a credible location for technology innovation. The country’s national strategy for digital sovereignty aims to enhance its data, AI, and quantum capabilities by the year 2030. Currently, it boasts more than 810 active startups, over 240 of which utilize AI as a fundamental element of their operations.
Key components of this effort include the MeluXina supercomputer and Tier IV data centres. The main public highlight of this narrative occurs for the third consecutive year in June.
On 10 and 11 June 2026, Nexus Luxembourg will return to Luxexpo The Box for its third gathering, a two-day summit that has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the European AI and tech calendar. Organized by The Dots and Paperjam, this year's summit will take place across 13,500 square metres, with five conference stages and more than 150 speakers, drawing over 10,000 attendees from over 50 countries.
This 2026 edition is designed as a “4-in-1” experience with four parallel curated tracks instead of a single extensive agenda. The central focus, the Intelligence Forum, addresses applied AI, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, sovereignty, and productivity tools across various industries. The Fintech Sphere engages players in financial services, founders, and regulators in discussions about the future of European finance, a fitting theme for Luxembourg, where fintech remains a crucial aspect of the economy.
The Launchpad Arena is dedicated to the startup competition, while the fourth track, Luxembourg Makes It Happen, serves as a gathering point for institutions, EU policymakers, national leaders, and keynote speakers.
This format is intentional, as it acknowledges the trend observed at leading European tech events: sprawling unconferences do not attract the attention of senior decision-makers, who prefer focused environments with relevant participants. Nexus Luxembourg is aligning itself with this approach.
The centerpiece of the Launchpad Arena is the Nexus Luxembourg Awards, where 250 startups and scaleups have been selected from 10 categories to compete live for a €100,000 grand prize. The prize consists of €25,000 in cash and €75,000 in premium business services, including workspace, consultancy, and media exposure, signaling that Luxembourg's startup ecosystem aims to establish winners locally rather than just providing a one-time cash award.
The categories reflect the current focus areas for European tech investment: cybersecurity, fintech and digital finance, govtech and digital society, green and climate tech, healthtech and biotech, Industry 4.0, smart mobility and autonomous driving, space tech, web3 and digital assets, and data & AI. Notably, space tech highlights Luxembourg’s long-standing reputation as a key player in Europe’s space economy.
Despite its small size, Luxembourg has made significant contributions to technology. The country’s R&D grants, which can cover up to 80% of qualifying expenses, an English-speaking workforce, and proximity to Brussels enhance its appeal. Earlier success stories like Talkwalker, OCSiAI, and JobToday have demonstrated the ecosystem's ability to nurture internationally relevant companies. However, the challenge remains to achieve scale and consistency.
Nexus Luxembourg is a crucial element of this initiative, deliberately aligning with the broader European movement towards technological self-determination and digital sovereignty. Luxembourg’s national strategy is in tune with this objective, prioritizing public investments in data, AI, and quantum infrastructure.
The “Luxembourg Makes It Happen” track at the summit essentially showcases this strategy.
Attendees can expect a diverse range of topics among the more than 150 speakers, including cybersecurity, data sovereignty, fintech and digital finance, govtech and digital society, green and climate tech, space tech, Industry 4.0, smart mobility, and healthtech. As the event approaches, final speaker announcements continue to be made, maintaining the tradition of including a mix of European policymakers, successful founders, and a few international experts to provide broader perspectives.
The Luxexpo The Box venue is well-suited to this event format, with five stages and 13,500 square metres of exhibition space. The compact geography of Luxembourg facilitates easier movement between sessions and enhances networking opportunities.
This year’s event is particularly significant due to its timing. The summit occurs just weeks before the implementation deadline for the EU AI Act's most impactful provisions. Luxembourg’s startup ecosystem has surpassed 800 active companies, with those utilizing AI having doubled since 2020. The MeluXina supercomputer is now in its second generation, and the Grand Duchy’s national strategy positions it as a credible alternative to reliance on
