RingConn’s Gen 3 smart ring is released featuring haptic notifications and a battery life of up to 14 days.
The smart ring can now be pre-ordered, with prices starting at $314.
After showcasing its next-generation smart ring at CES in January, RingConn has officially launched the Gen 3. To kick off the release, the company is offering a pre-order discount, with prices starting at $314 until May 28, after which they will increase to $349. Notably, there are no subscription fees, which is significant in a market where such charges have become more common.
Haptic alerts and extended battery life
The RingConn Gen 3 includes features revealed at CES, such as a vibration motor that can notify you about things like elevated heart rates, the completion of step goals, or low battery. This is a significant enhancement for a device that has generally not included active alerts, though it should be noted that haptic notifications for calls, texts, or app alerts are not supported.
The ring weighs between 2.5 and 3.5 grams, depending on the size, and RingConn claims a battery life of up to 14 days with the vibration function turned off. This duration surpasses that of Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, which lasts about 7 days with a similar weight. The ring is available in sizes from 6 to 15 and comes in five finishes: Future Silver, Royal Gold, Matte Black, Brushed Silver, and Brushed Rose Gold.
Blood pressure monitoring is coming, but isn't available at launch
Initially highlighted when RingConn unveiled the Gen 3 in January, blood pressure monitoring will not be live at launch. The company has indicated that this feature will be incorporated in a future software update.
When it becomes available, it will estimate blood pressure risk using a combination of heart rate, SpO2 levels, skin temperature, and motion data rather than measuring it directly. RingConn has emphasized that this tool is intended for pattern recognition rather than as a substitute for medical instruments.
If you are considering a smart ring and are interested in one that can actively alert you, the Gen 3 merits attention, keeping in mind that one of its key features has not yet been delivered.
