Plex is experiencing a significant increase in prices for remote streaming services.

      The Remote Watch Pass is set to increase by 50% starting June 1, just days after Plex added more devices that necessitate it.

      Plex announced that the price of its Remote Watch Pass will rise by 50% as of June 1, 2026. Monthly subscriptions will increase from $1.99 to $2.99, while annual plans will go up from $19.99 to $29.99, as indicated in emails sent to subscribers that were shared on the Plex subreddit.

      What’s changing and who’s affected:

      The Remote Watch Pass enables users to stream personal media libraries from a friend or family member’s Plex server when the server owner does not hold a Plex Pass subscription. In emails to subscribers, Plex described the price increase as the conclusion of “introductory pricing,” suggesting that the elevated rate was always intended.

      This price hike comes shortly after Plex expanded the list of platforms that require a Remote Watch Pass. On April 29, Plex updated its support documentation to confirm that remote playback limitations now affect Amazon Fire TV, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs, along with PlayStation and Xbox consoles. These platforms have now joined previously covered devices.

      The lifetime Plex Pass now seems more attractive than ever:

      For households sharing libraries with multiple remote viewers, costs can quickly accumulate. Each non-subscriber will need their own Remote Watch Pass. As a result, some users are reassessing their options. A Plex Pass allows server owners to share libraries with an unlimited number of remote users at no extra charge, costing $7/month, $70/year, or $250 for lifetime access. This lifetime option appears increasingly competitive as recurring fees rise.

      Furthermore, this change could spark renewed interest in Jellyfin, an open-source media server that has gained popularity among users dissatisfied with Plex's monetization changes. Jellyfin does not charge anything for remote streaming and imposes no account requirements.

      Plex has not indicated whether the Plex Pass itself will undergo a similar price increase. The company has not publicly addressed media inquiries about this adjustment outside of the subscriber emails, although it has updated the FAQ section on its Plans page to reflect the new pricing.
