About one-third of Google Translate’s mobile users currently use the app to hone their speaking and listening skills for real-world interactions, making this addition quite beneficial.
How does Google Translate's pronunciation practice feature function?
Google
After obtaining a translation, a new “Practice” button appears at the bottom of the app. Tapping it presents two options. The “Listen” option allows you to hear how native speakers pronounce the words. The “Pronounce” option is where you can engage in practice.
You will speak the translated phrase, and the AI will listen, analyze your pronunciation in real time, and provide immediate feedback on areas needing improvement. It will then display a phonetic breakdown of how each word should sound. The phonetic transcriptions are formatted to help you attempt it correctly on your next try. This feedback mechanism is reminiscent of how Duolingo provides pronunciation corrections in its language learning platform.
Google Translate has been steadily improving lately.

Pronunciation practice is the latest in a series of significant updates to Google Translate. The app has recently added the capability to interpret idioms and regional slang, allowing phrases like “raining cats and dogs” to be translated by their intended meaning rather than literally.
iPhone users also recently gained access to Live Translation via their headphones, a feature that was previously exclusive to Android. Now, with the addition of pronunciation coaching, Google Translate is increasingly becoming one of the best language learning tools available.
