Toyota has created a gaming chair that is likely pricier than your gaming setup.
Toyota transformed a Crown car seat into a luxurious desk chair equipped with heating and USB-C charging.
Your gaming chair might recline, have RGB lighting, or include a lumbar pillow that claims to provide support. Toyota, however, has taken a different approach. Toyota Boshoku has created the “CROWN SEAT” Desk Chair, a custom chair based on the front seat from the Toyota Crown. This extravagant car seat turned office chair will cost you nearly $3,500, more than double what I spent on my latest desktop setup.
A Crown seat for your spreadsheet empire
The concept is as unusual as it appears. Toyota has taken the front seat from its Crown series, mounted it on an office chair base, and repurposed it for desk use rather than driving.
The official catalog features a chair that still looks very much like it’s meant for a car, boasting cushioning and support typical of a high-end vehicle seat. Toyota Boshoku aims to bring the Crown's comfort to office and living spaces, a notion that sounds odd until you consider how many hours people spend at their desks.
Toyota Boshoku also collaborated with the Japanese office furniture company ITOKI to design the chair's structure, ensuring it operates like a true office chair. It retains several comfort features from the Crown, such as powered reclining, electric seat adjustments, lumbar support, and front tilt control.
It’s the comfort features that start to make the chair seem more appealing than it should be. There’s a seat heater for chilly mornings and excessive office air conditioning. Additionally, it features seat ventilation, with built-in fans designed to draw heat away from the backrest and cushion, making long work hours, gaming sessions, or late-night spreadsheet crunches a bit easier on your back.
The seat belt buckle now serves as a charging port for your phone
One of the standout features is positioned where the seat belt buckle would typically be located. Toyota has repurposed this area into a USB-C charging port, allowing your phone to plug directly into the chair.
A portable rechargeable battery powers the electrical adjustments, heater, and ventilation, giving the chair the functionality of a powered car seat in the form of an office chair.
At around $3,500, the Crown Seat Desk Chair costs more than many gaming setups. Reports indicate that only 70 units are planned for release in Japan, which may make it challenging for customers to obtain one.
