Xbox Game Pass may become more affordable with a partnership with Discord.
Discord Nitro is becoming even more appealing
Xbox Game Pass may soon take on a more affordable approach, and Discord could be the means Microsoft uses to achieve this. Earlier this week, the company hinted at a new partnership between Discord and Xbox Game Pass.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma stated that the two companies are collaborating once more “as we continue to enhance the flexibility of Game Pass for our players,” while also suggesting that some users might begin to notice code appearing ahead of an official announcement.
What does this partnership bring to gamers?
According to a tweet from DiscordPreviews, Discord Nitro subscribers might soon gain access to a new Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition bundle. Based on leaked information, this package is expected to include access to over 50 games, 10 hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming per month, and the chance to earn Xbox Rewards points while playing. The promotional image also hinted at including titles like Stardew Valley, Grounded, and Fallout 4 in the offering.
This seems to be a departure from Microsoft’s previous approach. Instead of integrating Discord benefits into Game Pass, current Discord Nitro subscribers may receive a scaled-down version of Game Pass. This provides players with a more affordable entry into Microsoft’s game library without having to pay for the full price tier.
How Xbox Game Pass is evolving to become more flexible
Earlier this week, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced a price reduction for the highest tier of Game Pass, lowering the Game Pass Ultimate cost from $29.99 to $22.99 per month. This new leak aligns with the broader strategy Microsoft has been indicating. The collaboration with Discord seems logical as a first step since the two companies already share a longstanding relationship, which includes linked Xbox Live profiles and Discord voice chat integration on consoles, plus stream support expected in 2024.
