Google Meet will soon take notes for you, even during in-person meetings.
Take Notes for Me, an in-person feature, signals that Google intends for Gemini to function as an AI layer across all conversations, not limited to a single application.
At Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas, Google unveiled a significant enhancement to the “Take Notes for Me” feature in Google Meet. It is now functional whether you are on a video call or physically present in a meeting room.
How does "Take Notes for Me" operate in real-life meetings?
The process is straightforward. You simply need to open Google Meet on your mobile device or computer, click the “Take Notes for Me” button before or during a discussion, and that's all there is to it.
The feature activates Gemini, which then listens to the dialogue, transcribes it, and identifies key decisions or action items. Everything is automatically compiled into a Google Doc, making it even easier to access without any manual input.
It's important to note that it doesn't require a pre-scheduled meeting. Additionally, it functions in any environment, whether you are at a café with a client or in a boardroom.
Does it function outside of Google Meet?
Yes, and this is what makes the feature particularly intriguing and valuable. The enhanced “Take Notes for Me” now also works in Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings, positioning Gemini as a cross-platform note-taker that is indifferent to the medium users choose for their personal or professional meetings.
This platform-independent feature places it in direct competition with paid transcription services like Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai. Currently, it is available through select Google One, Google Workspace Business, and Workspace Enterprise plans, with a full rollout expected in the coming weeks.
This shift seems less about simply taking notes and more about establishing Gemini as an ever-present AI component for all workplace discussions, not just those conducted on Google's platforms.
Samsung's new display technology can toggle between 2D/3D on OLED panels without the need for glasses. Samsung's 2D/3D metalens allows for practical, wide-angle 3D viewing that is compatible with OLED displays already found in smartphones.
In collaboration with POSTECH in South Korea, Samsung Research has published a study in the journal Nature highlighting a breakthrough in display technology. The company is developing a 2D/3D system that does not require glasses or eye-tracking hardware. The system adds minimal bulk to the display and utilizes what is known as a Metasurface Lenticular Lens, an ultra-thin optical layer just 1.2mm thick, composed of nanoscale structures that manipulate light behavior, thus influencing our perception of the emitted display light.
Microsoft Copilot can now perform actual tasks within your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Microsoft is introducing a valuable feature for Office users this week by launching Agent Mode in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, a more advanced iteration of the Copilot experience that Microsoft terms "vibe working." This has become the default experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot and is available to Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers, as well as on Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans.
AI has significantly exacerbated the worst forms of abusive content on the internet, leaving guardians struggling to keep up. Artificial intelligence has undeniably introduced many beneficial tools online, but it has also provided a grim boost to some of the most horrific forms of abuse. Recent reports and research indicate a distressing trend where generative AI is assisting offenders in producing child sexual abuse imagery on a larger scale. These images are increasingly realistic and presented in formats that are becoming increasingly challenging for platforms, regulators, and child-safety organizations to manage.
