I had a MacBook Air for three years, but now I'm loyal to the Galaxy Book6 Pro.
Throughout my life, I've been an Apple enthusiast—owning iPhones, MacBooks, and AirPods. You can imagine the level of loyalty I had to the Apple ecosystem. The thought of switching to another brand never crossed my mind. However, as people do, I have changed.
For the past three years, I've been using the MacBook Air M2, and it's been quite good. Recently, though, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Book6 Pro, and I felt an undeniable attraction to it. You’ll understand why it piqued my interest, and perhaps it will intrigue you as well.
Samsung… always delivers on appearance
To be honest, I'd never used a Samsung laptop before, so when the Galaxy Book6 Pro arrived, I didn’t know what to expect. The first thing I did was lift it, and I was pleasantly surprised. The laptop features a sleek aluminum frame, and holding it felt reminiscent of my MacBook Air M2. For someone accustomed to the Apple ecosystem, that sense of familiarity was more meaningful than I anticipated.
What astonished me next was its actual thinness. Not in a “wow, remarkable for a Windows laptop” way, but genuinely slim. Yet, it doesn’t feel empty or flimsy. The chassis is robust. I used it as my primary machine for two solid weeks, and at no point did I feel like I had made a compromise in build quality.
Samsung
Some may label this design as unexciting, and I've heard that opinion. However, I don’t desire my laptop to resemble a gaming setup. I prefer something that I can effortlessly carry into a meeting or a café. The Galaxy Book6 Pro achieves just that, showcasing a design that doesn’t overdo it.
When I examined the ports, I actually chuckled because, over the last three years, I hadn’t realized how much I had been tolerating. The MacBook Air makes you think that having only two USB-C ports is the norm. You purchase a dongle, carry it around, forget it at home, and endure the hassle—it's a routine. In contrast, the Book6 Pro comes equipped with an HDMI port, two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and an audio jack—all readily accessible. When I packed my bag that first morning, I didn’t have to conduct a dongle check. Although minor, it felt refreshing after three years of quiet frustration.
A symphony of keystrokes
As a writer, the keyboard is my immediate focus. Before assessing the display or conducting benchmarks, I place my fingers on the keys—if the typing experience is lacking, nothing else matters. Over the years, I've been spoiled by the MacBook’s Magic Keyboard; the flat key layout and spacing make typing effortless. Naturally, that was my standard going into this.
The Galaxy Book6 Pro impressed me in this area. The keys have a similarly thoughtful spacing, making lengthy typing sessions feel seamless, and the backlit layout is neat and user-friendly. I spent hours writing and researching, and I never once found myself hitting the wrong key or needing to correct errors. For my work, that’s crucial.
However, what took the Book6 Pro to the next level was an unexpected detail: the keys are matte. This may seem trivial until you've spent three years with the glossy keys of the MacBook Air. Despite my habit of constantly cleaning my hands before typing, I still ended up with greasy fingerprints on my keyboard by the end of each session, which was more bothersome than it should have been. The Book6 Pro's matte finish doesn’t have that problem. I've been using it daily, and the keys still look as pristine as they did out of the box. Honestly, this alone won me over, indicating just how annoying that glossy keyboard had been.
The screen matches the allure
The Galaxy Book6 Pro features a 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display, and I realized how much I had missed this capability during my first use. I had never had a touch display on a laptop before—my MacBook Air doesn’t have one—so this was entirely new for me. However, I adjusted quickly. While reading lengthy articles or diving into research, I simply reach out and scroll with my finger; it feels akin to using a tablet. The way the touchpad and touch display complement each other based on my activity creates a seamless experience.
There was a humorous moment when I returned to my MacBook to do some work and unconsciously reached for the screen, only to realize it wasn’t responsive at all. That moment confirmed that the Book6 Pro had fundamentally altered my expectations.
The 120Hz refresh rate ultimately swayed me. My MacBook Air operates at 60Hz, which I had never considered an issue—until I experienced the Book6 Pro. The contrast between the two is striking in a positive way. Everything on the Book6 Pro moves more fluidly—scrolling
