I'll be upfront — I lack self-discipline when it comes to YouTube Shorts. Regardless of whether I'm working or casually watching TV, as soon as one short catches my eye, I find myself caught in an endless scroll that I didn't intend to engage in. This is the last thing I need when I'm attempting to maintain focus. Back in October of last year, YouTube introduced a timer to help limit the time spent on Shorts. While it was helpful, it didn't completely address the issue. Now, there's finally a way to eliminate Shorts from your feed entirely. I decided to give it a try, and I can confidently say that it makes a significant difference. Here’s how you can remove Shorts from your feed and minimize distractions.

Here’s how to eliminate the Shorts feed on YouTube:

1. Open the YouTube app on your smartphone.
2. Tap your Profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
3. Go to the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
4. Then, select Time management.
5. Scroll down to the Daily limits section and tap on Shorts feed limit.
6. Set it to 0 minutes.
After completing this, tapping the Shorts tab will show a message indicating that you’ve reached your limit. More importantly, Shorts will no longer appear in your main feed, leaving you with only long-form videos to choose from.
Ending my relationship with Shorts because my attention span deserves more
This feature feels genuinely beneficial, especially for someone like me. I know myself well enough to acknowledge that as soon as I open YouTube, I'll end up watching the first Short that appears. One video leads to ten, then twenty, and before I realize it, I've completely lost track of time.

It's noticeably affected my screen time and, more importantly, my attention span. I've found myself craving everything to be quick and concise, which isn't how I want to engage with content or train my mind. There have even been nights where I’ve done nothing but scroll endlessly through Shorts, and that's a habit I don't want to keep. That's why this feature feels like a small but significant fix. It not only curbs usage but eliminates the temptation entirely, making it much easier to maintain control.
If it’s not available on your device yet, don’t worry. It's still being gradually rolled out across various regions, so it may take some time to show up. However, once it arrives, it's definitely worth activating. It’s a simple adjustment, but it can significantly enhance your YouTube experience.
