      Email applications have long sought to make managing your inbox feel quicker, smarter, and less burdensome. Cependant, Avec has seemingly observed this landscape and concluded that the real answer lies right before us: simply make emails behave like a dating app.

      Avec is a new mobile email application that displays your inbox as a stack of swipeable cards rather than the traditional list format. Although this might seem like a significant shift, the functionality is quite straightforward. Swipe left to address an email later, swipe right to mark it as completed or archive it, and swipe down to send less important messages to an "unimportant" pile that the app can later organize for easier cleanup.

      The appeal of this solution is intriguing.

      The card-based interface is the main attraction, and indeed, the comparison to Tinder is doing much of the marketing. However, Avec seeks to alleviate inbox fatigue on mobile devices, where email often feels cramped, tedious, and easily overlooked. The app also features a standard list-based inbox for those not yet ready to transition to a swipe-card format.

      Nevertheless, this design alone could have turned Avec into just another unconventional email client. Instead, it is also embracing voice inputs and AI.

      How does AI fit into this?

      Avec allows users to press and hold a button to dictate email replies vocally. Once you stop speaking, the app converts that recording into a draft that you can review, edit, and send. According to founder Jonathan Unikowski, this approach gives Avec an advantage over separate keyboard-based dictation tools since the app can see the entire email context, recognize names, and better align tone and writing styles.

      However, there's a limitation.

      Currently, Avec is only accessible in the United States and is exclusive to the iPhone. It is free for Gmail users, with Outlook support reportedly in development. The company has announced that paid tiers will be introduced later, but the details of these premium features are yet to be determined.
