A new free Borderlands game has just been silently released on the iPhone.
Borderlands Mobile is now available for iPhone as a free-to-play surprise
Borderlands Mobile by Zynga
A new entry in the Borderlands franchise has unexpectedly launched, specifically designed for mobile devices. 2K has discreetly introduced this free-to-play looter shooter, developed by Zynga, without the typical major announcement, trailer unveiling, or marketing campaign. However, this isn't a full-fledged release either.
What is it about?
Borderlands Mobile
Borderlands Mobile is marketed as a mobile-centric “epic looter shooter” that retains the essential Borderlands elements. Players assume the role of a Vault Hunter, tasked with gathering outrageous weapons, battling skags, bandits, and bosses, while pursuing legendary loot across various mission formats including Campaign Missions, Tower of Terror, and Circle of Slaughter.
This version seems specifically designed for mobile to maintain the franchise's distinctive cel-shaded art style, chaotic gunfire, and obsession with loot in a more compact, rapid format.
Currently an iPhone-exclusive release
Borderlands Mobile by Zynga
The App Store clearly states the platform limitations. Borderlands Mobile is labeled "Only for iPhone," is free, and requires iOS 18 or higher. Zynga Inc. is credited as the developer, with the download size listed at 2.9GB. Note that this is a soft launch, meaning regional access and platform availability are restricted.
It appears that this game is only available on the App Store for iOS users in the United States, and there is no sign of an official Google Play release for Android users.
In an official announcement, 2K referred to “Borderlands Mobile” as a temporary title, indicating that this is merely a “limited-time” test managed by Zynga, with Gearbox providing creative direction regarding the franchise's history, design, and lore.
