You will soon have the option to disable all Spotify videos for both music and podcasts.

Canvas clips, music videos, and podcast videos are set to become optional on Spotify!

Update (8:45 AM PT): Spotify has officially started the global rollout of its new feature, confirming the ability to disable all video content across music and podcasts. These new settings will be available on mobile, desktop, web, and TV for both Premium and Basic users across Individual, Duo, Family, and Student plans, as well as free users, allowing them to manage video content visibility in the app.

If Spotify's music videos have been bothersome, you will soon have the option to turn them off. The platform is implementing new video controls that will enable users to disable any video content within the app. Rowland Manthorpe shared this update on X.

I just received an email: Spotify is launching controls that allow users to turn off video for music and podcasts for themselves and members of their family plan. Isn't the enshittification theory claiming this isn't possible? Or could it actually be a covert strategy to degrade the service— Rowland Manthorpe (@rowlsmanthorpe) April 9, 2026.

How can you disable videos for music and podcasts on Spotify?

As of now, the new controls are not yet available in my location. According to The Verge, to turn off videos on Spotify, you will find the new settings under the "Content and display" section on mobile, or the "Display" section on desktop.

There will be three distinct toggles to manage. The first is an existing toggle that deactivates Canvas clips, the brief, looping videos that play in the background while a track is playing.

The second will be a new toggle to specifically disable music videos. The third, which is also new, will turn off all other video content on the platform, such as podcast videos and vertical videos. These three controls will give you detailed options on the amount of video you want during your Spotify experience.

How will Spotify’s new video controls function for Family Plan users?

For those managing a Spotify Family Plan, you will have the ability to apply these video controls to each individual member of your plan, similarly to how current managed account controls operate.

Once you disable video for a specific member at the plan level, that user won’t have the option to switch to the video version of a song or podcast independently.

This essentially restricts their experience to audio-only, which can be useful if your plan includes younger family members.

At the time of writing, Spotify has not made any formal announcement regarding the new video controls, and availability may differ based on your location and account type. If they have not appeared for you yet, consider updating your app and checking your settings in the coming days.
