Instagram has finally introduced the option to edit those cringeworthy comments, but there's a catch.

Instagram comment editing is now available, but you have only 15 minutes and there are other limitations to be aware of.

Anyone who has noticed a typo in an Instagram comment and felt a sense of discomfort understands the importance of this update. Instagram has officially introduced the feature that allows users to edit their comments after posting—something many have requested for quite some time.

How does Instagram's comment editing function?

The rules are straightforward and worth knowing before you assume you have plenty of time. After posting a comment, you have a 15-minute period during which you can go back and make edits. During this timeframe, you can modify your comment as many times as you like.

Once the 15 minutes are over, the editing option is no longer available. This time constraint is intentional, allowing users the chance to correct minor errors without letting conversations be drastically altered later on.

      Are there any additional limitations?

There are a few more limitations to keep in mind. You can only edit the text. If your Instagram comment includes an image alongside your text, you can correct the text but not the image itself.

Regarding visibility, anyone who views your comment will see that it has been edited, but they won't be able to see the original version. This approach is different from Facebook, which sometimes allows users to view the entire edit history.

Instagram has already implemented measures to address inappropriate comments. Last year, Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri mentioned that the platform is testing a dislike button for comments, although it is not available to all users yet. Given the number of harmful comments on the platform, a broader rollout could make a meaningful impact.

For now, I'm just relieved that I won’t have to erase an entire comment to correct a minor mistake or let a typo linger indefinitely.
