Your upcoming iPhone may resemble your existing model perfectly.
The standard iPhone 18 is not getting a significant redesign, while the iPhone Air 2 is expected to launch on schedule.
Much of the hype surrounding the iPhone 18 has centered on the Pro models, and for good reason. With enhanced cameras, the introduction of a punch-hole selfie camera, and the much-anticipated iPhone Fold, these features are capturing most of the attention. However, what can we expect from the regular iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2? A leak has provided insights into both, and the news is rather underwhelming.
Over the weekend, Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital shared two posts about the upcoming, less publicized iPhones from Apple. The first revelation is quite clear: the standard iPhone 18 will resemble the iPhone 17 closely. According to the leaker, the design will mostly stay the same, potentially with only slight modifications to its dimensions.
Will the base iPhone 18 feature the smaller Dynamic Island?
Previous leaks hinted that all iPhone 18 models would come with a smaller Dynamic Island. However, the latest leak from Fixed Focus Digital contradicts this by stating that the Pro models will be the sole recipients of this design feature. Therefore, if you’re particularly looking forward to this upgrade, you might have to be prepared for a higher price tag.
The minor size adjustment, if it occurs at all, is unlikely to be noticeable to most users. Essentially, it would mean that your existing iPhone 17 cases won’t fit the iPhone 18, necessitating new accessory purchases.
Is the iPhone Air 2 on track for release this year?
Fixed Focus Digital asserts that Apple will follow a typical product release schedule and unveil the iPhone Air 2 this fall, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. This is in contrast to reports from The Information and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, which suggested a spring 2027 launch.
While initial reports indicated that the original iPhone Air didn’t perform well in sales, recent data has shown that it has outpaced the Plus models it succeeded. Nonetheless, only Apple can determine whether these sales figures are sufficient to justify further iterations of the iPhone Air.
Fixed Focus Digital maintains that, similar to the Mini and Plus models, the iPhone Air 2 will enter its second generation without significant updates. Whether a third generation will follow remains undecided.
With conflicting information, the situation is currently uncertain. If Apple proceeds, expect internal enhancements, such as the A20 Pro chip, but minimal external changes.
