      **Samsung Galaxy S26**

      **MSRP**: $899.00

“A refined design, seamless software, and reliable everyday performance make the Galaxy S26 appealing, but its outdated cameras, sluggish charging speed, and cautious updates diminish its attractiveness.”

      **Pros**

      - Compact and user-friendly flagship design

      - Bright, smooth AMOLED display with consistent bezels

      - Exynos 2600 processes well in practical scenarios

      - One UI 8.5 remains one of the most comprehensive software experiences on Android

      **Cons**

      - Camera hardware seems outdated for the price

      - 25W charging is hard to justify in 2026

      - Battery life is decent but not dependable

      - Lacks a magnet for Qi2 wireless charging

Over the years, I’ve transitioned my primary device across various brands, Android interfaces, and ecosystems. However, premium Galaxy smartphones have always held a special place for me, even when they didn't dominate in specifications. Picking up the Galaxy S26 felt nostalgically familiar.

It fit seamlessly into my routine like an old favorite. Unfortunately, familiarity can only take you so far.

With attention focusing on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung's other premium models have been quietly overshadowed, even though they remain more accessible alternatives to the company's $1,300 flagship.

Despite the standard Galaxy S26 lacking exciting new hardware features, I approached this review with optimism. I hoped Samsung's trademark appeal was still present, and that this model wasn’t merely a more aesthetically refined, pricier version of its predecessor.

With the price increase in effect, a pertinent question arises: is the Galaxy S26 still the go-to Android flagship for those seeking something compact yet premium, or has it finally become sensible to consider alternatives like the iPhone 17?

**Quick Take**: Samsung’s 2026 base flagship remains delightful to hold, yet the new camera protrusion seems superficial.

At first glance, the Galaxy S26 bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor. The thickness and weight are almost the same, and most alterations are subtle, measured in millimeters rather than significant redesigns. However, turning it over reveals Samsung's intention for a more striking impression with the raised camera housing, reminiscent of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, suggesting a significant hardware upgrade.

      It doesn’t exist.

As the specifications indicate, the camera hardware doesn’t indicate a substantial upgrade. While the fresh design adds a bit of excitement, it can also mislead users. Someone unfamiliar with Samsung's annual refresh cycle might presume it is a much more camera-driven device than it actually is. This is a recurring issue with the Galaxy S26; it appears more ambitious than it actually is.

That being said, the fundamental aspects hold up well. It’s very comfortable for daily use. The combination of glass and metal maintains a premium feel, and the relatively lightweight design makes it one of the more manageable flagship phones. I also appreciated the Cobalt Violet version sent for review.

In my view, it’s the best color of the lineup, delivering a subdued elegance. I might even say it draws inspiration from the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue finish.

My main complaint is its slippery nature without a case. The smooth surface paired with the lightweight frame gives the Galaxy S26 a tendency to slip from your grasp at the slightest invitation.

Samsung hasn’t compromised on durability, as it features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both its front and back, secured in an Armor Aluminum 2 frame. It also carries an IP68 rating, allowing it to withstand water immersion up to 1.5 meters. Though these features are standard for flagships, they reinforce that the S26 still belongs in Samsung's premium line, even if upgrades elsewhere feel modest.

As for the unboxing experience, it continues to be minimalist, offering no case, charger, or even an applied screen protector. This is unsurprising in 2026, particularly from Samsung, though it still warrants criticism.

      **Design Score**: 7/10
