Typically, I'm not one to get overly enthusiastic about Android skins, but One UI 8.5 truly merits some acknowledgment. Samsung has consistently excelled in customization, and this update elevates the experience in a manner that feels genuinely advantageous. There are already numerous ways to modify your phone's appearance and functionality, but now Samsung is enhancing the areas that matter most. The Quick Panel, which you likely swipe down several times each day, is gaining additional customization features.
What’s new?
Samsung is certainly delving deeper into personalization with the latest QuickStar update. The Quick Panel has evolved from being merely functional to more closely resembling your unique space. You now have the ability to customize various elements with personal backgrounds, whether it's the brightness slider, media player, or specific quick toggles. This adds a personal touch that previously didn’t exist, particularly for those who prefer a certain aesthetic for their device. Additionally, there’s improved control over how items display in landscape mode, which is a thoughtful enhancement for users who often utilize their phone sideways for media consumption or gaming.

In addition to aesthetics, several practical adjustments make daily use somewhat more intuitive. You now have the option to resize certain components, such as minimizing the media player so it doesn't overwhelm the panel, and you can even see precise values for brightness and volume sliders. However, it’s not flawless yet. The slider values remain fixed to a single font style, which restricts their cohesion with various themes. Still, overall, this update gives the Quick Panel a more adaptable and personalized feel than before.
The devices that can finally enjoy these features
Currently, the new QuickStar functionalities are being rolled out exclusively for devices operating on One UI 8.5. This means that if you own a Galaxy A37, Galaxy A57, or any device from the Galaxy S26 lineup, you’re in luck.

However, Samsung isn’t entirely excluding other devices. If you're using a Galaxy S24 or S25 series, or one of the foldable models like the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, or Z Fold 7, you can experience a preview of the update via the One UI 8.5 beta program, provided it’s available in your area.

Pixel 11 Pro XL leak reveals a larger device, not a redesign
You'll receive a bigger screen while the overall design remains quite familiar.
The Pixel 11 Pro XL is starting to come into sharper focus, and if you anticipated a significant redesign, this leak presents a different perspective. Early CAD renders acquired by Android Headlines depict a device that closely resembles Google's existing design but in an enlarged format. This approach seems intentional. If you're already fond of the Pixel design, this model embraces it rather than reimagining it. The primary change is straightforward—it’s larger.

Android 17’s new notification settings may finally help manage your alert overload
Detailed controls in Android 17 might allow you to silence, highlight, or block notifications by app or individual contact.
The new notification management system in Android 17 could serve to alleviate your alert overload. Initial code seen in Android 17 suggests a more effective way to control how and when your device notifies you, particularly if constant notifications have become overwhelming. The system, identified in Android 17 Beta 3 by Android Authority, indicates that users will be able to define custom behaviors for notifications based on specific apps or even particular contacts. Instead of muting all notifications, you’ll have the ability to prioritize what should draw your attention while allowing less important alerts to remain quiet.
