Samsung created an alcohol refrigerator equipped with an AI feature to help manage your exquisite wine collection.
Samsung's latest AI-driven wine fridge can automatically scan, monitor, and manage your wine collection.
Samsung is fully embracing AI, and this latest venture doesn’t involve a smartphone or a television. It’s an upscale wine fridge that utilizes AI and a built-in camera to track, oversee, and comprehend your wine collection. While it may seem extravagant, it exemplifies the future direction of smart home technology.
What functionalities does this AI wine fridge offer?
The new AI Wine Refrigerator, part of Samsung’s premium Infinite series, features an "AI wine manager" with a camera positioned on top. It recognizes when a bottle is added or removed, scans the label, and records essential details like the wine’s name, grape type, and vintage.
This information is synced with Samsung’s SmartThings app, allowing you to keep track of your collection without needing to log anything manually. The system can even indicate the exact location of each bottle within the fridge.
The Infinite AI Wine Refrigerator accommodates up to 101 bottles and includes three distinct cooling zones, enabling you to maintain various types of wine at optimal temperatures ranging from 3°C to 18°C. Additionally, Samsung has fitted it with UV-blocking glass to safeguard the wine's quality and a low-vibration compressor to minimize disturbances that could impact aging.
What’s the benefit of having AI in a wine fridge?
For wine collectors, even at a casual level, keeping track of bottles can quickly become chaotic. It’s easy to forget what you own, where it’s located, or the optimal drinking time. Samsung’s AI solution aims to address these challenges.
By automatically scanning and recording bottles, the fridge eliminates the need for manual monitoring. You can access your collection via your phone, view contents without opening the door, and prevent a good bottle from being overlooked past its prime.
The camera system also provides a level of accuracy that conventional wine fridges lack. It transforms your wine collection into a more dynamic and searchable database, akin to a digital library rather than a physical wine rack.
As expected, this level of convenience comes with a significant price tag. Priced at 6,499,000 won (~$4,300), Samsung’s AI wine fridge is designed for serious enthusiasts rather than casual users who only keep a few bottles. It caters to those who prioritize storage conditions, organization, and long-term value.
The Infinite AI Wine Refrigerator is currently available in South Korea, Samsung’s home market. The company has not yet announced any information regarding international availability.
