      Reddit is enhancing its efforts against bots, and now users might be required to validate their humanity if the platform detects unusual behavior.

      Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated that these checks will be infrequent, but their purpose is to safeguard the essence of Reddit – genuine interactions among real individuals.

      As AI-generated content becomes more widespread, Reddit recognizes it is increasingly challenging to determine who is behind a post. Rather than implementing general crackdowns, the focus will now be on suspicious activities with clearer indications across the platform.

      If Reddit notices signs of automation or atypical actions, it may initiate a human verification process. This could include straightforward methods like passkeys or FaceID to confirm a human presence.

      In certain situations, external biometric systems like Sam Altman’s World ID may be utilized. The platform might also ask for government-issued IDs in regions where laws mandate this. However, Reddit asserts that your identity will remain separate from your account.

      Additionally, the company is standardizing labels for automated accounts. Authorized bots will feature an [APP] tag, making it clear that you are interacting with software. Developers will need to register their tools to obtain this label, providing an extra layer of transparency.

      Since Reddit clarifies this isn't a universal verification system, most users may never be asked to verify anything. Even when checks occur, the emphasis will be on confirming the existence of a human rather than identifying who that person is.
