The 25W wireless charging feature of the Galaxy S26 Ultra may not perform as expected.
Samsung's latest flagship complicates 25W wireless charging more than necessary.
With the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung has implemented several enhancements to battery and charging capabilities, including a slight increase in battery capacity and faster wired and wireless charging speeds.
After receiving numerous complaints from fans, Samsung's newest flagship finally raised the wireless charging speed to 25W, a significant upgrade from the previous standard of 15W in its premium devices. However, achieving these speeds appears to be more challenging than anticipated.
So, what’s the problem?
A Reddit user noted that the S26 Ultra’s wireless charging performance significantly relies on the specific chargers, cases, and alignment used. Consequently, many users may not experience the full 25W wireless charging capabilities unless these criteria are met. Thus, Samsung's claims are accurate, and it doesn't appear to be a hardware flaw; it’s primarily an issue of compatibility.
A feature that functions… under certain conditions
While the Galaxy S26 Ultra is capable of 25W wireless charging, it lacks complete native Qi2 magnetic alignment. Therefore, S26 Ultra users must invest in an appropriate charger and compatible case with proper magnetic alignment. The Reddit user mentioned that their S26 Ultra, when paired with a dbrand case, never reached the advertised 25W wireless charging speeds, only achieving a maximum of 15W.
However, using the official Samsung case restored its full charging speed. This indicates that the issue lies not with the phone or charger but rather with magnetic alignment and positioning. An official response from dbrand noted that even minor variations can hinder the phone's ability to reach those 25W speeds.
In essence, the charging experience can greatly differ based on the case, charger, and the precise positioning of the phone. This does not mean that the Galaxy S26 Ultra's 25W wireless charging is faulty, but it does come with a caveat. Users may need to experiment a bit more than they would typically expect to achieve optimal performance.
