The reduced hinge gap on your Zenbook Duo creates a more seamless experience between the dual screens.
The newly designed hideaway hinge aims to create a seamless workspace experience in the Zenbook Duo, featuring a minimal 8.28 mm gap for users who juggle tasks across two screens.
Asus is enhancing the signature dual-display setup of the Zenbook Duo by reducing the gap between panels at CES 2026. The main improvement is the 8.28 mm hinge gap, which should minimize distractions when moving windows, timelines, and toolbars between screens.
This enhancement is significant because dual-screen laptops can be beneficial, but users often find their eyes distracted by the gap. A narrower seam allows the Duo's setup to function more like a single, expansive canvas, which is particularly advantageous for tasks involving split-screens, such as taking notes on one display while working on a document or browsing on another.
The hinge effectively reduces the gap.
Asus claims that the new design achieves a 70% reduction in gap compared to earlier models. Although you may not measure it, you will certainly notice it during practical use, such as when you're editing or comparing content across the displays.

The hinge's purpose extends beyond aesthetics. The Duo can be placed flat on a surface for easier collaboration, and it can access a quick sharing interface once tilted beyond 175 degrees, making it useful for guiding someone through a design during a meeting.
Asus has also emphasized the hinge's durability, which has undergone testing for 40,000 opening and closing cycles and can support up to 15 kg of weight.
More than just a hinge adjustment.
A tighter seam is only effective if the remaining design supports the practicality of dual screens. The Duo maintains its built-in kickstand and a Bluetooth keyboard, allowing users to switch between traditional laptop typing and a more desktop-style position seamlessly.
The display components remain high-end as well, featuring dual 3K OLED touch panels capable of reaching peak brightness levels of up to 1000 nits and a variable refresh rate of 48 to 144 Hz depending on the onscreen content.
Is upgrading worthwhile?
If you are already a fan of the Zenbook Duo concept but found the divide between screens bothersome, this update directly addresses that issue. The smaller hinge gap is a noticeable improvement experienced continuously, rather than just during initial setup. If you are interested in this configuration within a gaming device context, Asus has the ROG Zephyrus Duo available as well.
Specifications and configurations will differ by region, so it’s advisable to check local listings for a model that aligns with your usage needs, particularly concerning portability and durability as much as display quality.
