Alexa+ now operates beyond Echo or Fire devices

A few weeks back, Alexa.com subtly went live for certain users, providing them with early access to Amazon's next-generation Alexa+ assistant via a web browser. Amazon has now confirmed this with a formal announcement at CES 2026.

Initially introduced in February 2025, Alexa+ was restricted to Amazon devices like Echo speakers, Fire devices, or mobile apps. By launching it on the web, Amazon is clearly positioning Alexa+ as a rival to chat-based assistants such as Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.

Capabilities of Alexa+ on the web

On Alexa.com, users can interact with Alexa+ just as they would with any modern AI assistant. This includes asking general questions, summarizing documents, and simplifying complex subjects.

Amazon states that Alexa+ on the web will assist with tasks such as meal planning, incorporating Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods for grocery orders. It can also extract important details from documents, like dates or meetings, and directly add them to your calendar.

Smart home management features are built into the web interface, allowing users to monitor security cameras, adjust lighting, modify thermostat settings, or unlock doors without needing to switch apps or devices.

Continuity is also integrated; conversations, preferences, and personalization will be consistent across devices, enabling you to pick up where you left off on the web using your phone or an Echo later.

Alexa+ can also assist in finding movies and shows and send suggestions to a Fire TV, if you have one. On Prime Video, it can take you directly to that favorite scene you'd like to rewatch.

As Amazon continues to expand its functionalities, Alexa's development is becoming increasingly noticeable. This growth can already be seen, with Alexa recently incorporating additional conversational AI features and integrating with services like Expedia and Yelp for shopping and travel planning.

Alexa+ on the web is accessible through Alexa.com and is currently available only to users with Early Access. The pricing remains unchanged, with Alexa+ costing $20 per month, while Prime members can access it at no additional charge.

Microsoft to discontinue support for Windows 11 SE in 2026

Microsoft has effectively announced the discontinuation of Windows 11 SE, the specialized version of its operating system designed for K–8 classrooms. By late 2026, support for this education-centered platform will officially end. This decision signifies a sharp shift from just a few years ago when Microsoft was marketing SE as a significant "Chromebook killer" and a crucial part of its strategy to appeal to schools.

When Windows 11 SE debuted in 2021, Microsoft promoted it as the ideal, "purpose-built" tool for younger learners. By 2022, it was being described as the beginning of a new "era of the PC," promising a setup that was straightforward, secure, and budget-friendly for financially constrained districts. It aimed to address the limitations of the previous Windows 10 "S Mode" by providing a streamlined, "web-first" experience.
