I tried out ChatGPT applications, and I'm really fond of these five powerful tools that help simplify everyday tasks.
In October, OpenAI announced plans to transform ChatGPT into an application platform. Up to this point, the AI chatbot has been addressing your inquiries, conducting research, generating images, and even performing a bit of autonomous browsing. Now, it is evolving into a core hub of applications that you can utilize daily.
Recently, the ChatGPT app store was officially launched, and the company has begun inviting developers to contribute their applications. The concept behind this initiative is to enable users to delegate tasks directly to ChatGPT rather than having to open various apps on their phones.
For instance, you might say, “Show me 1BHK house listings under $800K around the Ridgewood area on Zillow.” Or, “Create a poster for an organic Kimchi business that emphasizes handmade recipes in Canva.” The aim here is to eliminate complicated, multi-step tasks in apps and just instruct ChatGPT to complete them.
However, you'll need to link your apps or user accounts with ChatGPT, which is a hurdle you need to clear first. Currently, the app store has around sixty applications available, and after experimenting with them, I’ve compiled a list of my favorites.
Apple Music

This is my preferred music streaming platform, albeit the most chaotic one. I'm remarkably unmotivated when it comes to discovering new music; unless the algorithm suggests something outstanding, I can easily listen to the same two songs on repeat for hours.
With Apple Music now in ChatGPT, I've found it somewhat easier to uncover new music or create playlists based on a specific song. For example, I simply typed, “Find me songs similar to Mabalash by Hamaki and create a playlist called ‘soul’ in Apple Music.”
Shortly after I pressed enter, the AI chatbot took about a minute to compile a new playlist of eight songs. While it didn’t generate a poster for the playlist, the selected tracks were mostly on point.

I produce several dozen images in Canva daily. Between my journalism work and helping my sister with her fashion design aspirations, I frequently edit and enhance media assets and website visuals in Canva, thanks to a shared subscription.
I favor manual adjustments, but on some occasions, I merely need straightforward cropping to achieve a specific aspect ratio. For these low-stakes tasks, I upload the image and provide my needs to ChatGPT through a voice command. I don’t even need to open Canva to download the edited images directly from the chat window.
For brainstorming, I often gather images from Pinterest and ask ChatGPT to generate a few concept sketches with specific tweaks and modifications. This is quick and very practical when I'm pressed for time or just want to get work done on my phone.
Booking

Booking has been a true lifesaver for me. I’ve been living out of a suitcase for nearly five years, working in various cities throughout the year. It’s my preferred platform for finding accommodations. While the adventure is rewarding, the tediousness of locating suitable lodging can be quite draining.
It’s monotonous, repetitive, and time-consuming. Here’s where ChatGPT steps in to save the day. I simply provided the necessary details, and it completed the task in roughly a minute. My query was:
“Find me long-term stay options in Dharamkot for one person between December 14 and January 14th. Prefer places with a kitchen facility, and prioritize homestays or guest houses.”
The result, depicted in the image above, included top picks presented as an image carousel, along with five other options that matched my requirements. It spared me from the hassle of setting filters, entering information, and narrowed down the search to “just the right” choices.
Coursera

In addition to my role as a journalist, I also occasionally volunteer as a teacher and trainer. My latest role involved teaching English and Mathematics to children in an orphanage run by a British nun in a hilly region. This position is fulfilling, but sourcing the right course material isn’t always straightforward.
It’s not due to a scarcity of resources, but rather the overwhelming abundance that complicates the search for high-quality material. Thanks to the Coursera integration within ChatGPT, I was able to significantly cut down my research time and locate suitable courses with a prompt as simple as this:
“Find me free courses that focus on science education for high school students. Prefer options from top universities that offer certificates to learners.” In about two minutes, ChatGPT presented course material from prestigious institutions like Duke University, the University of Virginia, and MIT, including brief descriptions of the subject matters.

Image generation and editing have become standout use cases for generative AI tools, and for good reason. We take a lot of photos, some for memories and others for social media.
