Apple Music is coming back to your GM vehicle as a built-in infotainment application.
The rollout is happening for select Cadillac and Chevy models through an OTA update.
General Motors has recently declared that it will gradually discontinue support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles over the next few years. In response to this decision, the company is introducing native Apple Music support to the infotainment system in certain models.
According to The Verge, GM is bringing Apple Music to specific 2025 and 2026 model year Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles. The service will be accessible through GM’s OnStar Basics package and will reach eligible vehicles via an over-the-air (OTA) software update.
Currently, Apple Music is being made available in the 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet CTS, 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ, 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV, as well as the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, Suburban, and Tahoe. GM intends to extend this feature to Buick and GMC vehicles in the future.
GM ensures a more fluid experience with native Apple Music support.
GM characterizes the integration of Apple Music as “expanding entertainment options built directly into our vehicles,” previously highlighting that its integrated infotainment system offers a more seamless experience compared to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Consequently, native Apple Music support will enable users to begin streaming music immediately upon entering their vehicle and will also provide hands-free control through the car's voice assistant.
The company has already eliminated CarPlay and Android Auto support from most of its electric vehicles and announced plans to discontinue support for internal combustion engine (ICE) models in October. However, it has confirmed that existing ICE models that support CarPlay and Android Auto will remain unaffected.
In addition to Apple Music, GM is also introducing support for Apple Wallet and Digital Keys in select models. Furthermore, the automaker plans to integrate a conversational AI assistant powered by Google’s Gemini into its vehicles starting in 2026.
