Prime Video's AI recap feature performed so poorly that Amazon decided to take it down.
Fallout fans noticed the AI misinterpreting key plot details
Amazon has discreetly removed its recently introduced feature, AI-generated video recaps, after it incorrectly conveyed significant story elements of the Fallout series on Prime Video. The feature aimed to assist viewers in catching up before the next season by summarizing plot points into a brief video narrated by an AI voice. However, it fumbled fundamental facts, leading to confusion among both longtime fans and newcomers to the show.
Where the AI recaps went awry
Viewers first identified issues with Fallout’s season one recap. The AI inaccurately claimed that one of The Ghoul’s flashbacks occurred in the 1950s, despite the actual setting being the year 2077. As pointed out by GamesRadar, the narrator also misrepresented a crucial character moment by stating that The Ghoul presented Lucy with the choice of dying or leaving with him. The reality is much more complex, as Lucy had the option to either accompany him or remain behind and face a potential attack from the Brotherhood of Steel.
Fallout on Prime added a season one recap, but it’s not worth watching; it’s poorly produced AI content that contains several inaccuracies, like the flashbacks being set in the 1950s and the misleading phrasing "Cooper offers Lucy a choice in the finale: die, or join him," suggesting he would be the one to kill her 😭 pic.twitter.com/zHLvN988w5— lucks eterna ☘️ (@lucks_eterna) November 24, 2025
Previously, Amazon implemented these AI-based recaps across various series, including The Rig, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, and Bosch. Now, the feature has been removed from all of them, and Amazon has not provided any updates regarding its return. This development comes as Amazon tests other enhancements for Prime Video, like an Alexa feature that lets you skip to any scene described.

The concept behind these recaps seemed reasonable in theory. They were intended to save viewers time by providing a quick refresher before a new season. For the time being, Prime Video serves as a reminder of the complications that can arise when generative AI attempts to interpret a complex world like Fallout. While Amazon may consider reinstating the feature after improvements, this incident illustrates the current limitations of AI in producing reliable story recaps.
