After two years of discreet development, the EV manufacturer has announced that its in-house AI assistant will be available starting early 2026. The exciting part? It won't be limited to just the latest models; it will be implemented in every single R1T and R1S already on the road.

The aim is to allow drivers and passengers to adjust features such as air conditioning, manage music, and check vehicle statistics through natural conversation instead of robotic commands. Unlike traditional assistants that respond only to specific keywords, this system employs an “agentic” framework, which enables it to perform tasks by integrating with other applications.

      As a foundational feature, it will connect to Google Calendar to handle your schedule while driving. To enhance its understanding of context and reasoning, the system combines Rivian's own internal models with established technologies like Google’s Gemini and Vertex AI.

      This technology operates on Rivian Unified Intelligence (RUI). You can think of RUI as a maestro that orchestrates various AI tools, allowing Rivian to utilize the best external technologies while maintaining control over its own systems.
