Tesla is introducing a new notification to prevent you from forgetting your phone.

What’s happening? Tesla has unveiled a significant Holiday Update for 2025 that will be coming to its vehicles, including a highly requested feature.

In a recent update on X, the electric car manufacturer announced that the new update will include a feature designed to alert drivers if they inadvertently leave their phone in the car.

When activated, the vehicle will emit a chime if the driver exits and leaves their phone behind.

The Phone Left Behind Chime will sound if the vehicle detects a phone key inside the cabin or a phone placed on the wireless charger.

Why does this matter? This feature will be particularly useful for Tesla owners who utilize their phone as a key, ensuring that their car doesn’t remain unlocked if they forget to take their phone with them.

For those not using the phone key feature, the chime will act as a reminder to pick up their phone if it’s left on the wireless charger after the last occupant exits the vehicle.

It provides Tesla drivers with added reassurance by helping to keep their phone and its contents secure in their pocket.

Why is this relevant to you? If you frequently forget your phone in your Tesla, the Phone Left Behind Chime should reduce the need for a return trip to retrieve it.

It will also make sure your car remains locked if your phone is inadvertently left in the cabin.

Additionally, the feature may help prevent your phone from overheating if left inside the car when the weather is hot.

What’s coming next? Tesla has not yet provided a timeline for the rollout of its 2025 Holiday Update, but it is expected to be available in the near future. However, the company noted that feature availability may depend on vehicle hardware and region, so there’s a possibility that the Phone Left Behind Chime may not be available for all cars. After the update is released, Tesla drivers can activate the feature by going to Controls > Locks > Phone Left Behind Chime.
