Wiim’s latest Amp Ultra surpasses its amplified streamers.

For those in search of an all-in-one network music streamer and two-channel stereo amplifier, Wiim may have what you’re looking for. Its new Wiim Amp Ultra, making its debut at the High End Munich 2025 show alongside the company's first wireless speaker (Wiim Sound) and Wiim Sub Pro wireless subwoofer, seems to build on the award-winning Wiim Ultra. It features 100 watts of amplification and advanced internal components that surpass those found in Wiim’s existing Wiim Amp, Amp Pro, and Vibelink Amp models, as well as offering Dolby Digital decoding— a first for the Wiim series.

Similar to the Wiim Sound and Wiim Sub Pro, the company has not disclosed pricing or availability for the Amp Ultra, only stating it will be released in Q3 2025 via Amazon and select retail partners. Given that the Wiim Amp Pro and Vibelink Amp are priced at $299, it is likely that the Amp Ultra will be priced higher, though the exact amount remains uncertain, especially when considering tariffs.

The Wiim Amp Ultra closely resembles the Wiim Ultra streamer, featuring a full-color 3.5-inch touchscreen, a large volume knob/playback button, and a sleek aluminum body.

On the rear, the ports available seem to combine the Ultra’s digital inputs (HDMI-ARC, optical, USB, and Ethernet), analog inputs (stereo RCA), and the Vibelink Amp’s hybrid speaker terminals.

Unlike the Vibelink Amp, the Amp Ultra includes an analog subwoofer output, but unfortunately, it omits one of the Wiim Ultra’s most useful features — the front-facing 3.5mm headphone jack. Additionally, there is no specific input for turntables, indicating that it may not have every feature just yet.

Internally, the Amp Ultra is almost identical to the Vibelink Amp. It employs Post-Filter Feedback Technology (PFFT) along with a 32-bit/384kHz ESS ES9039Q2M Sabre DAC and six TI OPA1612 op-amps. However, the Amp Ultra utilizes dual TI TPA3255 Class-D amp chips, in contrast to Vibelink’s single TPA3255. Like the Vibelink, the Amp Ultra can drive 8-ohm speakers with up to 100 watts per channel and 4-ohm speakers with up to 200 watts. In both scenarios, it can accommodate up to two speakers per channel.

In terms of streaming capabilities, the Amp Ultra includes all the standard Wiim features, such as:

      - Google Cast

      - Alexa Cast

      - DLNA

      - Spotify Connect

      - Tidal Connect

      - In-app access (via the Wiim Home app) to Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Qobuz, and more

      - Compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

      - Wi-Fi 6E, two-way Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio

      - Built-in room calibration

      - Support for hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192kHz

      - Parametric and graphic EQs

      However, it lacks AirPlay support.

It's worth noting that the Wiim Amp Ultra is the fourth streaming music product from Wiim that does not support Apple AirPlay. Neither Wiim nor Apple has provided an explanation for this, leaving speculation about the changes since the introduction of the Wiim Amp, the last of the company's streamers to include Apple’s wireless music protocol.

For dedicated audiophiles, the lack of AirPlay may not be a significant issue. Currently, AirPlay employs lossy compression, which removes some audio information to reduce file sizes. Those who prioritize audio quality may prefer Google Cast, Tidal Connect, DLNA, or Qobuz and Amazon Music through the Wiim Home app for true lossless audio.

The Wiim Amp Pro will feature Wiim’s new Voice Remote 2, which launched earlier in 2025. This remote, resembling Apple's Siri remote and constructed entirely of aluminum, serves as an excellent companion to the Amp Ultra and enables the streamer to function as an Amazon Alexa speaker via its built-in microphone.
