The soon-to-be-announced Honor Magic V5 is expected to feature a larger battery than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

According to a report from GSMArena, the battery in Honor’s forthcoming foldable phone is anticipated to be nearly 6,000mAh. This is due to the inclusion of two battery cells of different capacities, with one at 3,880mAh and the other at 2,070mAh. When combined, the total battery capacity of the Honor Magic V5 will be 5,950mAh.

This is an increase of 800mAh compared to the battery in the Honor Magic V3, which was 5,150mAh. The Magic V3 supported 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging, all while being recognized as the thinnest foldable smartphone globally. The Magic V5 will also feature 66W wired charging, although its wireless charging and reverse wireless charging capabilities have not yet been specified.

On the other hand, the Z Fold 7 is reported to have a 4,400mAh battery, the same as the Z Fold 6. If the Z Fold 7’s battery capacity remains unchanged, it is reasonable to expect similar charging specifications—25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Nonetheless, the actual battery specifications for the Z Fold 7 will only be confirmed upon Samsung’s official announcement.

You might be asking, “What happened to the Magic V4?” We previously reported on rumors regarding it in February, but sources have indicated that Honor will bypass it in favor of the Magic V5. This decision stems from the cultural belief among Chinese phone manufacturers that the number four is associated with bad luck; the Mandarin word for four is phonetically close to the word for “death,” leading to tetraphobia. This is also why Oppo introduced the Oppo Find N5 after the Oppo Find N3.

Samsung has faced some valid criticism recently for allowing its foldable devices to become stagnant, especially in light of recent innovative designs from Chinese phone manufacturers. Although it appears that there won't be any major shifts with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is making certain changes that will rejuvenate the Z Fold lineup.

The Oppo Find N5 should have been the OnePlus Open 2, here’s why

It's rare for a phone manufacturer to consistently amaze, but Oppo and OnePlus have managed to do so with their foldable devices. The OnePlus Open, which is OnePlus’s inaugural foldable based on the Oppo Find N3, has been highly regarded as the best folding phone since its launch in October 2023. The intended successor was the Oppo Find N5. After spending a month with Oppo’s newest folding phone, I find it to be my favorite at the moment, offering a significantly enhanced experience compared to the OnePlus Open, though the drawback is that it is not available for purchase.

Don't expect faster charging speeds on Galaxy Z Fold 7

If you were anticipating that Samsung would improve the charging speed for its upcoming foldable devices, you might be let down. Recently leaked certifications suggest that both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 will maintain the same wired charging speeds as their predecessors. According to China’s 3C authority (via Android Headlines), which has certified both models, both phones are expected to continue with a charging speed of 25W and will come with a Samsung EP-TA800 charger that is capped at 25W.
