Imagine that by downloading a software update on your current iPhone, you could actually increase its battery life. This may become a reality with iOS 19.

According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, iOS 19 is expected to utilize AI technology to improve battery efficiency on the iPhone.

This feature is expected to be categorized under Apple Intelligence and will be referred to as battery management.

One of the exciting aspects is that this extension of battery life could be available as early as September, coinciding with the expected rollout of iOS 19 after its announcement at WWDC 2025 in June.

What is battery management in iOS 19?

The report suggests that Apple is developing an AI-driven battery management system with its upcoming software update. But how will it function?

It is believed that the AI will analyze users' iPhone usage patterns and then adjust settings to optimize power conservation.

Gurman states: “To develop the technology — part of the Apple Intelligence platform — the company is using battery data it has gathered from user devices to identify trends and predict when to reduce power consumption for certain applications or features.”

He mentions that “sources with knowledge of the situation” discussed a lock-screen indicator that could intelligently estimate the time required to recharge the device to full capacity.

This development is particularly relevant in light of rumors suggesting that the iPhone 17 Air may face battery life challenges due to its slimmer design.

Gurman emphasizes: “The motivation behind the battery feature is linked to the upcoming slimmed-down iPhone 17, which will be presented as an alternative to the standard and Pro models. Due to its thinner design, the new iPhone will feature a smaller battery and thus offer fewer hours of usage compared to other models.”

As this is a feature of iOS 19, it may also apply to iPads and older iPhones. However, since it’s part of Apple Intelligence, it will only function on devices capable of supporting that – specifically, the iPhone 15 Pro Max or newer.

Apple may finally address Siri’s issues on iPhones with assistance from Google’s Gemini.

“Could you help me find a decent coffee shop where I can sit and work?” I asked into my iPhone’s microphone. “I’ll need to use ChatGPT to write that.” That was Siri’s reply during my interaction with Apple's voice assistant just over a week ago. Google’s Gemini assistant provided the assistance I anticipated.

The prices of iPhones are on the rise, but not for the reasons you might assume.

The average sales price of iPhones has increased, but not exactly for the reasons you think — or at least not solely for that reason. New data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) indicates the average price of an iPhone has risen by $18 to $971, up from $953 in the fourth quarter of 2024. While many attribute this to tariffs, the direct economic impact remains unclear. The current trend toward higher-priced iPhones primarily stems from Apple’s recent decision to discontinue the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 lines. Analysts examine metrics like the U.S. Weighted Average Retail Price (US-WARP) to assess the average sale price, especially since Apple ceased publicly reporting these numbers at the end of 2018.

The iPhone 17 could receive a significant RAM upgrade.

While we already anticipated the iPhone 17 to be a major upgrade, a new rumor suggests it might represent an even larger technical advancement than initially considered. Prominent tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the entire series will employ Apple Intelligence on a “large scale,” with each model in the lineup, from the base iPhone 17 to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, equipped with 12GB of RAM. This leak supports earlier claims by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, thereby increasing its credibility. Given that current iPhones max out at 8GB of RAM, this signifies a 33% increase — a notable enhancement. Digital Chat Station also mentions that the phones will utilize the TSMC A19 Pro chip, the most powerful chip yet in an iPhone. Combining these factors, it's likely that the iPhone 17 series will offer considerably improved performance compared to existing models.
