PlayStation has established a new studio that is developing a 'frog-themed game,' whatever that may entail.

      PlayStation

Today, PlayStation introduced a new addition to PlayStation Studios: teamLFG, a studio that began at Bungie but has since become independent. The announcement on the PlayStation Blog also hinted at the studio’s inaugural game, describing it as “an ambitious incubation project.” While it certainly sounds ambitious, it also leaves many questions unanswered.

As stated by teamLFG, “Our first game is a team-based action title influenced by fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life simulators, and frog-themed games. Players will explore a whimsical, comedic world set in a brand-new, mythic science-fantasy universe. We can’t wait to share more details.”

This eclectic mixture of genres prompts curiosity about what exactly constitutes a “frog-type” game. Nevertheless, regardless of its final form, it appears promising. The studio comprises experienced developers who have worked on renowned titles such as Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, and Roblox, along with newcomers who bring fresh creative insights and abilities.

It’s likely that this project is the same one Bungie teased nearly two years ago when a social media post hinted at an intriguing venture. However, Bungie will not be the official publisher for this title; that responsibility belongs to teamLFG.

One of our favorite incubation projects is a team-based action game inspired by various genres set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe. It draws from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-themed games, all wrapped in a light-hearted, comedic world.— Bungie (@Bungie) August 18, 2023

This new studio brings an optimistic viewpoint to the gaming industry, and teamLFG’s enthusiasm for gaming is clear in its message. “Our goal is to create games where players can find friendship, community, and a sense of belonging. We want our players to feel a thrill when they log on to see their teammates already online. We hope they’ll recognize familiar names and create myths and memes with each other. We want our players to fondly recall that moment when they executed that one play that turned the entire match around.”

A consistent theme runs through teamLFG’s introduction: gaming is meant to be a social experience. The studio expresses its desire to create “immersive multiplayer worlds” and “develop games alongside [its] communities.” They believe that gaming is most enjoyable with friends, and the most memorable moments occur in multiplayer settings.

There’s another clue about the enigmatic “frog-like” game. It is likely to be a live-service title, as suggested by a line near the conclusion of the studio’s introduction. “…but throughout live service as we continue to expand the game and community for years to come.”

For now, teamLFG has not revealed a title or release date for its upcoming game.

3 PlayStation Plus Games to Play This Weekend (March 28-30)

As we wrap up March and head into April, there’s a lot happening in the gaming world, but not much news from PlayStation. While Nintendo fans received a Direct this week and another for the Switch 2 is on the horizon, we’re anticipating the next lineup of new PlayStation Plus games to keep us entertained until major titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are released. While Xbox fans are enjoying Atomfall and Nintendo gamers are speculating about the next Direct, I’ve compiled the best PlayStation Plus games to enjoy this weekend while we await the announcement of upcoming PS5 titles.

      Bloodborne

No one needs a reason to play Bloodborne, but if you’re looking for one, here it is. This week marks the 10th anniversary of this iconic Souls game that still captivates players. It was the first significant departure from the traditional Dark Souls formula, emphasizing fast and aggressive play over defensive strategies. Even at 30 FPS, the game feels tight and responsive, and it boasts one of the best atmospheres that FromSoftware has ever created. After a decade of hoping for a remaster, remake, PC port, or even just a PS5 patch, it’s time to accept what we have and appreciate the game for its brilliance.

3 New PlayStation Plus Games to Play This Weekend (March 21-23)

Having been treated to some major titles in PlayStation Plus Essential at the beginning of the month, such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the second batch of new games offers an opportunity to explore some hidden gems that may have been overlooked at launch. In truth, nearly every game coming to Extra and Premium this month is worth experiencing, with representation from sports titles, Metroidvanias, and indie games. However, recognizing that gaming time is limited, we’ve made difficult choices to highlight the three best new games on PlayStation Plus to enjoy this weekend.
