ADT provides some of the most sought-after security systems available. The company is also well-versed in smart home technology, offering a range of Google Home devices, and its latest collaboration includes the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch Z-Wave 800 Series. This smart lock stands out as the only one on the market that features fingerprint control via Z-Wave, allowing users to disarm the entire security system using their fingerprint.
Designed specifically for seamless integration with the ADT+ base station, the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch Z-Wave 800 Series enables direct control of your security system from the smart lock, eliminating the necessity to input codes via a keypad. The fingerprint scanner facilitates both arming and disarming the system, along with locking or unlocking the front door. This impressive feature makes it unique, particularly for ADT+ members.
While compatibility with the ADT+ security system is a primary attraction of Yale’s latest offering, there are several other appealing features, including:
- Custom code creation for guests and visitors
- Auto Lock and Unlock functionality
- Remote access through the ADT+ app
- Traditional access using a physical key
- Six-month battery life
Yale has enhanced the lock's range to improve communication with other smart home devices, enabling interaction with devices located further away from the front door. We hold the entire Assure Lock 2 series in high regard, and this latest addition appears to be another excellent entry. Our initial review of the Yale Assure Lock 2 described it as “smarter than your average smart lock,” and this partnership with ADT confirms that sentiment.
The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch Z-Wave 800 Series retails for $280.

SimpliSafe has introduced an AI-powered detection system alongside the new Outdoor Security Camera Series 2. After a period in early access, SimpliSafe’s Active Guard Outdoor Protection feature is now publicly available. Utilizing AI technology along with a team of security experts, Active Guard Outdoor Protection aims to detect and prevent crime before it occurs. This feature is integrated into the new Outdoor Security Camera Series 2, although enrolling in a monthly membership is required for full service access.
SimpliSafe is not new to AI-driven crime deterrence, having a similar feature on the Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera. While that capability is beneficial, it means that intruders have already breached your home. In contrast, the Outdoor Security Camera Series 2 combined with Active Guard Outdoor Protection is designed to detect threats and notify SimpliSafe agents within 30 seconds of motion detection.
The Yale Code presents a distinctive alternative to conventional smart locks. This new electronic lock incorporates many features from smart locks like the Assure Lock 2, yet it is not classified as a smart lock due to the absence of support for platforms like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Matter. It lacks a mobile companion app and cannot connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Instead, users can customize "smart" features directly on the lock, making the Yale Code a combination of traditional and smart locking technology.
This non-connected keypad lock offers operation via a physical key or its digital keypad. Users can create and edit passwords directly on the keypad, which eliminates the need for mobile apps or third-party smart home platform connections. This should appeal to those looking for a straightforward installation process or who prefer not to manage their front door through their smartphone. Regardless of its absence of conventional smart features, the Yale Code still includes functionalities typical of smart locks, such as an Auto Lock feature that secures the deadbolt after a set period of inactivity.
Yale smart locks have become even more appealing for Airbnb hosts, allowing for the creation and manual sharing of temporary codes with guests. The Yale Assure Lock 2, Yale Approach, and August Wi-Fi Smart Lock have recently undergone a significant update that enhances their integration with Airbnb.
This integration enables hosts to connect their smart locks directly to the Airbnb app, which can then automatically send unique door codes to guests along with other stay-related information. Previously, hosts were required to manually create and send codes for each guest, but this process is now automated via the Airbnb app, resulting in a more seamless hosting experience.
