NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Thursday, May 1.

Connections is considered one of the top puzzle games by the New York Times. The objective of the game is to categorize a set of 16 words into four undisclosed groups by determining the relationships among the words. The puzzle resets each night at midnight, with a varying level of difficulty for each new challenge. Similar to Wordle, players can keep track of their winning streak and compare scores with friends.

Some days can be more challenging than others, much like other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're struggling with today’s puzzle, you can refer to our guide for tips and strategies, or check the hints provided below for today's Connections puzzle. If you're still having trouble, we’ll give you the answers at the end.

      How to play Connections

Connections is a daily game designed to uncover common links between words. Players must select four groups of four words while making no more than three mistakes. You can play now. [Link](https://t.co/YITfSnqODb)

You can enjoy Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available on iOS and Android.

In Connections, you will see a grid of 16 words, and your task is to arrange these words into four sets of four by identifying their connections. These groups might include themes like video game series titles, sequel names in literature, shades of red, or names of restaurant chains.

While some words may appear to fit multiple categories, there is only one perfectly correct answer. You have the option to shuffle the grid and rearrange the words to better visualize the connections.

Each group is assigned a color. The yellow group is typically the easiest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple.

Select four words and click Submit. If chosen correctly, those four words will be removed from the grid, and the theme tying them together will be disclosed. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake, with a total of four mistakes allowed before the game concludes.

Who edits the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been an editor for puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, edits Connections on a daily basis. In an article detailing her process from June 2024, Liu mentioned: “A few months ago, a new assignment crossed my desk: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and needed an editor. Most of my experience has been with crosswords, and I was thrilled to take on a new opportunity. I’ve enjoyed discovering how puzzle editing unfolds once a game is approved, and understanding how our team integrates into a larger framework.”

On the one-year anniversary of Connections' launch earlier this year, Liu shared a TikTok highlighting her favorite puzzles to date:
