While 2025 has already seen the release of some outstanding films, many of this year’s top productions are reserved for the summer months. From blockbuster franchises like Superman to new series like Elio, movie enthusiasts should keep an eye on these upcoming films.
**Thunderbolts** – May 2, 2025

This entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and several other former villains joining forces to save the world from the superpowered Sentry following a botched black ops mission.
Although Marvel films have had a mixed reception recently, Thunderbolts has been promoted as a dark and distinctive crossover focused on Earth’s Unlikeliest Heroes. Overall, it looks poised to diverge from the typical superhero film, offering the MCU a much-needed boost as it builds towards Avengers: Doomsday.
**Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning** – May 23, 2025

**The Life of Chuck** – June 6, 2025

Adapted from Stephen King's novella, The Life of Chuck explores the emotional experiences of Charles Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), culminating with a mysterious billboard celebrating his 39 years of life. As a King adaptation, it has naturally attracted significant attention. The film received acclaim after its debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the TIFF People’s Choice Award.
Though director Mike Flanagan has deviated from his usual horror style seen in classics such as Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House, he has reportedly crafted one of the finest adaptations of Stephen King's work yet. Additionally, the film’s distributor, Neon, has gained tremendous popularity lately due to successes like Longlegs, Immaculate, Anora, and Parasite, contributing to the film's heightened anticipation among audiences.
**Elio** – June 20, 2025

Once again, Disney and Pixar are venturing into the cosmos, this time following a young boy (Yonas Kibreab) who is abducted by aliens that mistake him for Earth’s ambassador, leading him to navigate the bizarre and wondrous Communiverse.
Being Pixar's first exploration of intelligent extraterrestrials, Elio has already hinted at a colorful and imaginative story through its trailers, showcasing the studio at its most inventive. After Pixar set box office records with Inside Out 2, this animation powerhouse appears ready to captivate audiences once more with this new journey.
**28 Years Later** – June 20, 2025
