Intel and Nvidia have launched their latest laptop components for gaming devices, with Intel's Arrow Lake-HX Core Ultra 9 275HX debuting alongside Nvidia's new Blackwell 5000-series GPUs. Both innovations are notable advancements in performance and image quality. I had an opportunity to test one of the first machines to incorporate both technologies.

Specifically, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i boasts the Core Ultra 9 and the second-most powerful Blackwell GPU, the GeForce RTX 5080. It’s an extraordinarily fast laptop—indeed, the quickest Windows laptop I've ever evaluated. It's also well-constructed, featuring a lively gamer aesthetic and a stunning OLED display. The Legion Pro 7i exemplifies the latest generation of high-performance gaming laptops, appealing to creators as well.

Lenovo is still finalizing the distribution of the Legion Pro 7i, which includes both availability and pricing. At the time of writing, only one configuration is available, and it cannot be purchased yet. It was originally priced at $3,399 for the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, 32GB of high-speed RAM, two 1TB SSDs, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, and a 16.0-inch QHD+ OLED display capable of up to 240Hz. This setup is more than sufficient for most gamers, but it carries a premium price tag. We will have to wait to see if Lenovo introduces other configurations or if prices remain elevated.

      **Design**

The Legion Pro 7i is unmistakably a gaming laptop, evidenced by its considerable thickness at just over an inch, and its weight of 5.67 pounds. This bulk is necessary to provide ample airflow and incorporate an advanced thermal solution for heat management. The laptop can utilize up to its full 250 watts TDP between the CPU and GPU, requiring a complex “ColdFront” cooling system that incorporates vapor chambers, large dual fans, and a “hyper chamber” that draws cool air in from below and expels warm air from the rear. There may be some marketing embellishment, but the thermal solution is effective, and while the fans do accelerate, I’ve encountered louder gaming laptops.

The design features multiple gamer aesthetic elements, starting with per-key RGB lighting on the keyboard and an RGB strip along the front edge that casts vibrant colors across a surface. The rear showcases RGB LEDs outlining the typical fighter jet exhaust ports, adding visual flair. The lighting can be customized using the LegionSpace app, offering more options through Windows Settings.

Aside from the lighting and structure, the Legion Pro 7i is rather minimalist. It’s all-black with no unique textures as found on the Lenovo Legion 9i. The appearance of size is amplified slightly by the offset lid, which extends outward, giving it a more substantial look. The bezels at the top and sides of the display are thin, while the bottom chin is notably larger, further enhancing the laptop's depth. It’s an
