Cao Xudong, the founder and CEO of Momenta, spoke at a press conference during the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show on April 24, 2025. The company, a prominent Chinese provider of assisted and autonomous driving solutions, announced on that date that it has secured contracts to supply over 130 car models with its assisted driving technologies, highlighting a growing roster of clients that includes General Motors, SAIC-Volkswagen, and Toyota. As of last year, Momenta has incorporated its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features into 26 models and anticipates that by the end of May, there will be 300,000 vehicles on the road utilizing its technology, as stated by co-founder and CEO Cao Xudong. "We are the first Chinese company to successfully implement assisted driving technologies, including highway and city navigation features, across various countries worldwide, such as Germany, France, and Japan," Cao informed reporters at the press conference (translated). Cao also disclosed plans to launch a new artificial intelligence model, referred to as an end-to-end neural network, later this year, which could facilitate the creation of advanced simulation environments for vehicles to learn driving autonomously. The Chinese startup is developing its autonomous driving system without relying on costly high-definition maps, which presents a relatively efficient approach to scaling self-driving vehicles. Furthermore, by the end of this year, Momenta will begin operating fully driverless vehicles for passenger transport in Shanghai, the eastern Chinese city where SAIC, one of its key investors, is located, positioning Momenta as a potential competitor to robotaxi firms like Waymo, Pony.ai, and WeRide.
