Earlier this week, Sydney Sweeney agreed to produce the adaptation of Sega’s OutRun video game, with Michael Bay set to direct. Reports now indicate that Sweeney has also become involved in another video game adaptation, taking on roles as both a producer and an actress.

According to Variety, Sweeney has joined the cast of Split Fiction, a popular video game that launched less than two months ago. The game centers on Mio Hudson, an aspiring sci-fi writer, and Zoe Foster, a fantasy writer, who are invited to participate in an experimental simulation demonstration. When Mio unintentionally finds herself in Zoe’s simulation, the two women become trapped in a scenario that draws from their individual stories, necessitating their collaboration to escape. While Variety does not specify which character Sweeney will portray, there is the potential for another notable actress to join her in the lead roles.

The arrangement for the Split Fiction film was finalized a little over a month ago, and the project is gaining momentum. Jon M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, is set to lead the adaptation, which is based on a script by Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

As of now, the Split Fiction film does not yet have a major studio or streaming service attached to it. The project remains in the packaging stage, but it has already drawn significant interest from top talent. Developer Hazelight Studios is reuniting with Story Kitchen on this venture following their successful partnership to adapt It Takes Two into a film for Amazon MGM Studios.

The film rights for Split Fiction have reportedly captured the interest of potential buyers, although it remains unclear which studios are competing to acquire and produce the film. Given how swiftly the game has emerged as a candidate for adaptation, it may secure a production home very soon.
