Three excellent Hulu movies to watch this weekend (April 25 – 27)

      The last weekend of April has arrived, and Hulu is celebrating by featuring No Hard Feelings, the 2023 comedy that marked Jennifer Lawrence's return following a lengthy break. This film spent approximately 18 months on Netflix, but Hulu will serve as its exclusive streaming platform for at least the same duration.

      That’s just the first of three excellent movies available on Hulu that you should watch this weekend. Our other selections include a contemporary classic and a newly released horror film that stands out from the crowd … quite literally!

      No Hard Feelings (2023)

      What lengths would you go to in order to avoid financial disaster? No Hard Feelings truly tests Maddie Barker (Jennifer Lawrence). In one fell swoop, she finds herself on the verge of losing her car and home without any options. However, she receives an unexpected proposal from Laird (Matthew Broderick) and Allison Becker (Laura Benanti).

      The Becker family is extremely wealthy, yet their son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman), who is about to head to college, is socially awkward and has never had a real girlfriend. Consequently, the Beckers offer to pay Maddie to date Percy — a guy more than ten years younger than her. What Maddie fails to realize is that Percy lacks any romantic confidence and isn’t very open to her seductive efforts.

      L.A. Confidential (1997)

      In an alternate reality, L.A. Confidential would have won the Oscar for Best Picture. This modern noir is undoubtedly one of the finest films of the ’90s, propelling Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce to stardom. Set in early 1950s Los Angeles, the film revolves around a powerful figure’s attempt to seize control of the criminal underworld.

      Detective Lieutenant Edmund Exley (Pearce) and Officer Wendell “Bud” White (Russell Crowe) are so engrossed in their rivalry that they fail to see the connection between their separate investigations, which are crucial to dismantling the plot behind the criminal takeover. Detective Sergeant Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) is also inching closer to another facet of the scheme, oblivious to how personally significant it is. Together, the detectives may be able to connect the dots, if they survive long enough.

      In a Violent Nature (2024)

      In a Violent Nature is one of the few slasher films that garnered critical praise upon its debut. It deviates from many modern tropes by primarily presenting the story from the slasher’s viewport, Johnny (Ry Barrett). He was peacefully dead until a group of friends, including Kris (Andrea Pavlovic) and Colt (Cameron Love), inadvertently took a locket that held both personal and supernatural significance for Johnny.

      The film unfolds the legend of Johnny’s death and reveals why he transformed into a vengeful spirit. These kids unintentionally stirred the hornet’s nest by resurrecting Johnny from the beyond, and he plans to send several of his victims there before this horror film concludes.
