Moto Razr 2025 Preview: more robust, recognizable, and trendier
If you've been contemplating a flip phone in the last three years, the Motorola Razr series has surely made its way onto your shopping list.
The Razr Plus is widely seen as the top flip phone on the market today, while the standard Razr provides many of the same features at a more affordable price, making these devices more reachable for a broader audience.
With the introduction of the Razr Plus 2025 and the all-new Razr Ultra 2025, Motorola has also launched a new Razr 2025 that delivers a similar experience to its pricier counterparts, but at a more budget-friendly cost.
This new model comes with distinctive colors and finishes that help it stand out, but what are those color options and what are the main new features? We had the opportunity to explore the Razr 2025 during an exclusive preview event in New York City yesterday. Here’s our initial hands-on look at Motorola's latest entry-level flip phone.
The same classic design and display
At first glance, the Moto Razr 2024 and this year's version appear quite similar, yet there are subtle enhancements that make the Razr 2025 a significant upgrade.
You might not notice it, but the new Razr 2025 features an upgraded titanium hinge akin to the rest of the Razr 2025 models. This hinge is four times more robust than the stainless steel hinge found in earlier models, allowing the Razr 2025 to endure up to 35% more folds.
This enhanced hinge is paired with a reimagined ultra-thin glass, creating a more seamless experience. Motorola asserts that the crease and display are now 30% smoother, and while I couldn't independently verify this, the device feels noticeably softer to touch. The angle at which the display folds has also been reengineered, ensuring that the crease remains minimal both upon initial use and as time goes on.
Other than these updates, the Razr 2025 retains a look very similar to the Razr 2024. The front still boasts a 3.6-inch AMOLED cover display with a peak brightness of 1,700 nits and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Additionally, the Cover Display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, offering extra resistance against scratches and everyday wear.
When you unfold the Razr 2025, you’ll find the same 6.9-inch Foldable LTPO OLED display as last year's model, complete with a dynamic refresh rate that goes up to 120Hz, a 220Hz touch sampling rate, and a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits. The main display supports HDR10+, while the Cover Display includes support for the enhanced Ultra HDR standard.
On the right side, you'll see the same side-mounted fingerprint sensor that performed exceptionally well last year. While the Razr Ultra 2025 has a new dedicated AI key, the Razr 2025 opts for the same stylish design Motorola has refined over the years.
A range of fantastic colors
Beyond the subtle changes to the hinge, the most striking difference lies in the new color options. The Razr 2024 was available in three colors — Gray, Beach, and Orange — but this year, all color options have been refreshed.
We’ve detailed the distinctions between each of the Razr 2025 hues, and there are four available. At our preview event, we missed the chance to see the Parfait Pink, but the other three colors were showcased.
The Gibraltar Sea model showcases a rich navy shade that’s quite appealing, while the Lightest Sky is a stunning white likely to be the most favored. However, my top pick is the Spring Bud color, a vibrant lime-green that stands out and is unlike any other phone on the market.
Upgraded internals and a bigger battery
In addition to the hinge and color updates, the most significant enhancements are found within. The Razr 2025 is equipped with the new Dimensity 7400X processor, recently announced, contrasting with last year's model that featured the 7300X processor.
Though the differences between the two models may be subtle, the Dimensity 7400X offers a processor with a higher clock speed, which should enhance its capability to manage more complex tasks more efficiently. This new processor pairs with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
Furthermore, Motorola has increased the battery capacity from 4,200 mAh to 4,500 mAh. This enhancement should improve battery life further, ensuring the Razr 2025 can last a full day, similar to its predecessor, despite the increase in capacity. For when the battery is low, it also comes with 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging options.
An identical camera experience
