Bethesda has revealed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered today, labeled as a "love letter" to the original game, featuring enhanced graphics, updated gameplay, and more. The game is now accessible through Game Pass, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Rebuilt entirely using Unreal Engine 5, Bethesda and Virtuos stated that the core elements of the game remain unchanged. It is still the Oblivion you remember, but with improved visuals and smoother gameplay, showcasing greater technical capabilities than the 2006 disc version. In addition, there are several quality-of-life enhancements to accommodate gamers familiar with contemporary mechanics.
One significant addition is the sprint feature, allowing players to run at full speed when necessary, which should alleviate the sometimes sluggish feel of the original game. Numerous new voice lines have been incorporated, but Virtuos ensured that the original's quirky humor, particularly Sheogorath’s love for cheese, has been preserved.
The leveling system has seen enhancements as well. Players of the original may recall odd enemy scaling, where forest creatures could pose more danger than city guards, but this issue has been resolved. Virtuos drew inspiration from Skyrim’s leveling system and combat mechanics, giving Oblivion Remastered a heavier combat experience.
The game launches with all the original add-ons and expansions, meaning players can explore The Shivering Isles and experience the Knights of the Nine storyline. Other smaller features, like the well-known horse armor, have also returned.
For fans eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series, Todd Howard reassured viewers that development on The Elder Scrolls VI is progressing, though he did not provide additional details.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for $50 across multiple platforms. It may be rolling out in phases regionally; at the moment, it is not available for download, possibly due to server demand or because it has not yet launched in certain areas.

In related news, ahead of its release tomorrow, Valve has confirmed that FromSoftware's latest title, Elden Ring, is verified for the Steam Deck.
Bethesda's Todd Howard stated in an interview with GQ that the next Elder Scrolls game has significant expectations and must be a "decade game", following Skyrim’s legacy. Developing a game intended for ten years of play comes with challenges, as Skyrim was designed for replayability with countless quests. However, Howard expressed uncertainty about how Bethesda will create a game offering more content and replayability than Skyrim.
Lastly, The Elder Scrolls Online has recently launched the Blackwood Chapter, introducing a new region to explore along with various quests, group activities, and collectible items. The most notable addition is the new Companion System, providing players with a permanent follower for their adventures. However, only players who have purchased the Blackwood Chapter can utilize this feature, marking one of the most significant changes to ESO in years. For those starting with the Companion System, there are several tips and tricks to aid in your journey.
